The disc is readable on a computer......

I would like to convert/burn an AVI file to a DVD disc and have it playable on a TV/DVD player. I have converted the file to an ISO using IMGBurn, then wrote it to a disc, and then tried to play on a DVD player, the disc was read as an unknown disc. What am I doing wrong?
