I can set booktype now after reinstalling in IDE mode. Still get "Unknown (no way to query current setting)" message.

Yes, I get the same exact error as the original poster. Have no problem reformatting and installing in IDE mode if that will fix it. thx

Better off to use IDE mode instead of AHCI? need booktype support with this system.

What is the limitation of Samsung drives? on a second box I'm using the AMD 785G chipset and get the same booktype error on DVD+R and DVD+R DL with Win 7 and Samsung drive. No other drivers that I can see other than the stock MS ones.
