  1. Hi, I'm trying to recover files from an unbootable hard drive. I've tried many different options, Linux, Hiren's Boot CD, etc. I need a Windows OS though because I constantly get errors reading the disk in Linux, and Mini XP doesn't allow me the options I need. Is there a way to burn a CD or DVD in ImgBurn from the i386 file containing all the Windows XP OS components? I have discovered BartPE and WinBuilder but I didn't realize that I wouldn't be operating in Windows, it's like their own environment. I just want to be able to boot into Windows from a CD like you can do with Linux. I appreciate any help, Thanks.
  2. Booktyping would just make a +R disk more compatible with players. Is that right?

  4. Awesome! I updated the firmware. It had absolutely no problems at all. I put one of the practice disks in i had been using and it burned to it, popped it right out and then retracted to verify and i didn't get any errors. I never would have thought it was the drive. Thanks for showing me that. And yeah, i pretty much assumed that the people on the forum were dopes but it was quite a few saying they didn't like it. In any case, now that i've been enlightened about disk media, I'm most likely going to get verbatim. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist and i don't like knowing that it could be better and then settle for something less. I've worked on my project too long. So, I don't really get the plus or minus thing. Is it just a different format? Do i need DVD+R or DVD-R? And, how important is setting booktype? Every time I've tried i get an error, even after the firmware update. ImgBurn is an awesome program. I like the funny lines in it; makes it more human. Free is definitely one of the best aspects. I'd donate but i'm poor and i gotta go buy those disks.
  5. I have two computers to potentially use. I kept getting a lot of read errors on my first one. A Dell Dimension E310 with an HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H21N drive. LG right? The computer that I can't close the session on is a Dell Inspiron 530S with an HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N ATA Device. That's all my computer recognizes it as. Thanks for the brand tip. Why is rewritable media worse? Also, I've read on several forums that many people don't trust and therefore don't use the verify feature, and considering that no disc is perfect, that read errors are difficult to avoid. I don't know obviously though. I just canceled the session and it plays okay. I didn't do a verify on it. I looked up my DVD type (Sony DVD+RW) on Afterdawn.com and most people say that Sony is very high quality and that the results are comparable to verbatim. I guess I let you tell me whether my drive type is the problem and whether verbatim would be better for it.
  6. Hi, Im burning to a DVD+RW disk. Everything seems to go okay, but the session never closes. Here's a log: I 13:10:22 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started! I'm using Sony DVD+RW disks, so they should be fairly high quality right? Are read errors necessarily bad? Is there an acceptable amount before quality is noticeably affected?
