  1. Well that's fair enough - I think I understand that And thanks for your quick reply too - much appreciated
  2. I think my DVD drive might be on its way out; that, or I have had a few duff DVD-R blanks. In any case, sometimes my DVD does not burn correctly. In these cases, it doesn't manage to burn the lead-in, and the drive just keeps running up and then slowing down again, ad nauseam; it's stuck in a loop or something! The thing is that when I try to cancel the burn process, ImgBurn can't seem to stop it. I can't stop the process using Process Explorer or Task Manager. I have tried allowing ImgBurn loads of time to terminate the process (it gets a bit annoyed if you try to rush it!) but the only way to stop the process is to eject the DVD using a paperclip (it's the only way to get the drive to open) and then shut the PC down using the power switch held down for 5 seconds. Why is it that optical drives have so much say in the way a computer works? If a CD or DVD drive throws a strop, that's it, the computer has to be shut down. This has been the case since Win98SE when if you took a CD out of the drive before it was ready, it used to declare the disc missing and even if you put the original disc back in again, still the strop would not end. How come a simple optical drive can have such far-reaching and over-dominating effects in even a modern computer? Anyway, I wondered if there was any way of getting ImgBurn to actually stop the drive and the process when the Abort button is pressed? I love ImgBurn, it really is a superb program, and I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the program, but why is it that optical drives are a law unto themselves, and, is there anything that ImgBurn can do to help?
  3. I would like to create an audio CD from .cda files on my hard drive, by making a disc image in ImgBurn. How do I tell the new .iso image that it is an audio CD, please? Also is it possible for me to create an iso image of an audio cd that I have already created, and when I burn the iso image of that cd, will he image play in a normal cd player? Thanks in advance!
  4. Is there a facility for burning CDs in RAW mode? I have seen that you can scan CDs in RAW, but what about burning them, please? Yes, I have looked first !
  5. It's Microsoft's Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel. The reason for the question was that I thought that all CDs could be stored as an iso image, y'see. I thought is was like a sort of snapshot of the CD. So that's why - I was surprised - and asked the question!
  6. I'm trying to copy a CD-ROM to an 'iso file so that I can use the disc image with a virtual CD drive. When trying to create the disc image, I set it up to save as an .iso file but I get an error message as attached. Here is the logfile: I 10:06:24 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started! Thanks in advance for your time
  7. Thanks for the quick response By 'based on', I meant I want to create the image *from* a few files on the C: drive (about 30Mb) and save the image *to* the C: drive as well. That was what it didn't seem to like. However I think I see where you're pointing to, so I will give it a shot tonight and with your permission will repost if I have any more problems! Edit: Ok, have tried it. It says 'You can't save the boot image file to the same drive you're trying to read!' Where, then? Edit 2: Sorted it. I was trying to use 'EXtract Boot Image'. Not necessary.....
  8. Hi folks - I have tried to find an answer to this in the main help pages but can't make sense of it in the context of my problem. I have used ImgBurn to create an ISO image from a set of files and folders; that is, I have built a set of files and made an iso image of them. However, it would not boot. I discovered it was because I had not set it to boot under 'Advanced' - 'Make Image Bootable'. However, when I try to 'Extract Boot Image', that's where I come unstuck. I want to make an original CD of my files and make it bootable, not to copy the bootable bit from another CD. The list of files on the CD does have an .IMA file in it, but it complains about it not being in the right place, in that if I try to put it on my hard drive, it complains that it can't put the image on the disc I'm writing to. If I put it in a separate partition on my hard drive, it tells me that the file size will be enormous - the size of the partition, in fact! So to recap, I have a list of files on my hard drive, one of which is an .ima file of about 1.4Mb, and I want to create an iso image that, when it's burned to a CD, will be bootable. The only thing I can think of is to burn all the files to CD [not bootable] and then extract the whole lot to an image file on my hard drive, which kind of misses the point in that it uses a blank CD and I wanted to create the image on my hard drive. So, how should I *really* go about it, please? Thanks in advance Tony PS ImgBurn log: I 11:10:35 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started!
