@LIGHTNING UK! Thanks for providing useful learning as always. As a result of all this my understanding of how to use ImgBurn 2.5.1 keeps improving. An important learning has been that in settings choosing the latest updated version is not the same thing as what we generally understand version update to mean. In ImgBurn, in settings, each version has a defined functionality suited to a specific situation & so in that sense a version update in settings in ImgBurn is not the same as what comes to our mind when someone says version update @rastan I recommend you download & read entirely The ImgBurn Functions.pdf A member suggested this to me as I am a newbie, excellent advice, I did so & benefited enormously & so suggest you do the same The software for changing file creation & file modification date is FileMenu Tools 5.8. It's the best

DVD Flick 1.3.0.7 says only NTFS drive on your computer supports encoding if output file size exceeds 4GB. I use DVD Flick 1.3.0.7 & ImgBurn 2.5.1. My DVD folder output file size is >4GB on my PC. My ISO file size on my PC is >4GB.
On my PC only C drive is on NTFS.
Query
Do I need to ensure that whenever I create a DVD Folder or ISO file I should do so only on my C drive? My operating system is WinXp Professional 32 bit

Thanks. Read it entirely, downloaded pdf for future reference. Many useful learnings including section 3.3.2.1 relating to image options. I had earlier not understood e.g. "Data Type - Model 1/2048" and "UDF Revision 1.02". Now I've learnt where to use what. These are just 2 examples - there are too many others to mention. Well what can I say. ' /> Apart from the fact that WinXP SP3 is the latest service pack why do you suggest SP3? My system builder keeps recommending SP2 instead of SP3. By my own experience I find SP2 runs more apps in a more trouble free manner. That's why I am on SP2. But then, am I missing something important behind your advice? Please let me know

WinXp Professional 32 bit SP2; I use DVD Flick 1.3.0.7 to convert & compile my avi video (on my pc) to vob video on my PC. Next I convert the vob to iso on my PC.
Finally I write the vob from my PC to DVD which says Sony DVD-R 120min/4.7GB AccuCORE 16x/1x.
My C Drive is on NTFS, D Drive on FAT32 & E Drive on FAT32.
DVD Flick clearly (& mercifully!) tells me to compile the vob file only on C drive since only NTFS file system supports encoding where file size exceeds 4GB. So I always create the vob only on C Drive Please bear with me.I prefer not to write to DVD in one step.
I prefer 2 steps just to play safe.
I know because of this I do temporarily eat up more drive space on my PC because I have a vob & an iso.I need to therefore plan my drive space on my PC between all 3 drives C, D & E because the the vob could be between 3.8GB to 4.1GB & its iso could be of equivalent size. Query
After the vob is created on C Drive can I quit worrying & have the freedom to create the iso on any drive (C, D or E) even if iso file size >4GB? Or should I do iso creation only on C drive just because iso file size exceeds 4GB?
Naturally after DVD burning is done I erase all the files on my PC to reclaim drive space. I then erase the avi file, vob folders, iso file & DVD project file as well.Whew!

Had a great experience in ImgBurn 2.5.1 burning an avi movie from my computer to DVD (used DVD Flick 1.3.0.7 to compile it to a vob). I have WinXp Professional 32 bit SP2, Office 2003
Query
1) Can I use ImgBurn 2.5.1 to burn to DVD my following files -
- powerpoint
- excel
- word
- image files e.g. jpg, tiff, bmp, ico (icon file) etc etc
2) Can I do this from start to finish using only ImgBurn 2.5.1 or do I need to have other software to compile &/or convert

Thanks to this great software & sound advice from all of you I successfully wrote my DVD-R on my very first attempt & it looks nice. The functionalities, gui, the way the log captures everything & indeed everything else not only makes things simple but also simplifies the process & tells you how long it took. ImgBurn is really great because generally in other software these processes are quite complex & time consuming.

The thing you want is called multisession and that's something ImgBurn doesn't support.
Finalising or not finalising makes no difference if the program doesn't support multisession.
I'm sure I'll get round to adding multisession support one day, but it's not something I want/need and will therefore keep being pushed back on my 'ToDo' list.
ImgBurn is one of a very few burning programs that's actually all its (my) own code. Most the others (especially freeware ones) are just a GUI around a common burning library (a DLL file made by another company).
Grateful if you could clarify this. In ImgBurn 2.5.1 under Tools-Settings there is a setting which can be selected or deselected. It is called "Enable Burn proof". I am under the impression that if this is unticked it allows more files to be added. Have I understood it incorrectly? And by all counts ImgBurn is an outstanding program

@The Author - I have nothing against SP3. I have it only because my system builder friends recommended it. That's the only reason:)

As I currently understand it "Build" means creating an image whether iso format or other image formats; "Building" the image on your hard disk gives you an exact replica of what eventually your cd/dvd would look like.The only thing is that it is still on your hard disk & not yet on your cd/dvd. "Write" means burning that image to disc so that it is now on your cd/dvd. When the image is "written" to the device aka disc aka e.g. cd/dvd etc you end up with an audio cd or video cd . So I always thought that "Build" & "Write" are 2 totally different things

I am slightly puzzled when it says you can "build to image" (meaning hard disk) or you can build to device (meaning cd, dvd etc). Does not "build to device" actually mean writing? If it does not then how does this kind of "build" differ from "write"? When you build an iso image to dvd is it not exactly the same thing has having written a dvd?
I am sorry my query may be rather basic but I would be grateful if you could clarify this. Please excuse my ignorance.

2 tasks - one followed by the other. First build iso file to hard disk from vob container 'VIDEO_TS' folder (which is on my hard disk). Second write that iso file to DVD which says Sony DVD-R 120min/4.7 GB AccuCORE 16x/1x. Understood your excellent forum guides.
Before I even do both these things I wish to configure settings correctly. There are 3 settings:-

- Write settings - fully understood

- Image Layout File Format - I have tickmarked CUE, DVD & MDS
- Log File/Folder Non Compliant Names - I have tickmarked ISO9660, JOLIET & UDF. (For naming label & volume I would use ISO9660+UDF)
2)Tools-Write-Page1
- Options-Write Mode-Auto - Chose it since it automatically determines the best speed based upon DVD brandname, DVD quality & the drive burn speed as configured by my operating system
- Process Priority - was set at high & I let it remain that way
3)Mode-Build-Options-Image Options
- Data Type - Mode1/2048 - did not understand this. Left it unchanged.What does this mean??
- File System - ISO9660+UDF
- UDF Revision - 1.02 - did not understand this. Left it unchanged.What does this mean??
3)Tools-Write-Page2
- Write Errors, Software Retries, Finalize Disc-Auto Retry 20 - let this setting remain unchanged
- Finalize Disc, Ignore Errors - did not tickmark this
- Enable Burn Proof - did not tickmark this because if I had tickmarked it would not allow me to add any more files
4)Tools-Registry
- File Associations - Tickmarked CDR, IBQ, MDS, BIN, CUE,IMG, CCD, ISO, DVD, IBB
- Set ImgBurn As Default Application - Left it unticked. This way it may appear on my context menu as an option I guess
5)Tickmarked the tickbox called Auto below the calculator so that it will automatically calculate & tell me if the iso image would fit into my DVD disc even if I forget
Have I planned all the input parameters correctly? Please provide me guidance?

If you want to burn a DVD Video disc, follow the DVD Video guide in the Guides forum. (Hint: just add the 'VIDEO_TS' folder to the source box in 'Build' mode and then click the big 'Write' button.)

It's just that I chose to stop at compilation rather than at one shot proceeding with building iso or writing it to DVD disc. That's because I wanted to understand the process & not for any other reason. I diligently read the DVD Video Guide & your wonderful forum & guides too before posting a query. Thanks.
Is the Audio_TS folder always an empty folder in every single case? Therefore is it so that one can always build an iso by adding VIDEO_TS to the source box in 'Build' mode?

I installed ImgBurn 2.5.1 after installing DVD Flick 1.3.0.7 build 738 32. I have - WinXp Professional 32 bit with C drive on NTFS & D drive FAT32 & E drive FAT32. In DVD Flick main window there are 2 configurations - a)Project Settings b)Menu Settings. I have an .avi video on my computer. I have compiled it in C drive as a vob container. I have built that vob container to an .iso file in E drive. Now I want to burn the iso file. The DVD disc has the following written on it - Sony DVD-R 120 min/4.7 GB, AccuCORE 16x/x. I am totally clear about the Project Settings in DVD Flick.
My queries are:-
1)In Menu Settings in DVD Flick I chose to keep unticked all 3 things - Auto-play menu, Show subtitle menu first & show audio menu first. Is it ok?
2)I have saved the project on my desktop on C drive in C:\Documents and Settings\ilitws\desktop. Is it ok?
3)I have saved the compiled DVD folder on C drive in C:\Documents and Settings\ilitws\My Documents\dvd since only an NTFS file systems supports encoded output >2GB. This compiled folder contains within it sub folders & files as follows -
C:\Documents and Settings\ilitws\My Documents\dvd\dvd which contains 2 sub folders - AUDIO_TS which is empty & VIDEO_TS which contains - VIDEO_TS.BUP 6KB,VIDEO_01_0.BUP 80KB, VIDEO_01_1.VOB 1,048,544 KB,VIDEO_01_2.VOB 1,048,544 KB,VIDEO_01_3.VOB 1,048,544 KB,VIDEO_01_4.VOB 883,020 KB, VIDEO_TS.IFO 6KB & VTS_01_0.IFO 80KB. The size of this folder is 3.84 GB
It also contains some files apart from the above -

On ImgBurn 2.5.1 I'll therefore burn ISO file also only on drive C (NTFS) since ISO file size >4GB
Also in my situation DVD Flick 1.3.0.7 build 738 always advises me to compile DVD folder only to C drive(NTFS)since its file size >4GB
