  1. Yes, I knew all that. My version of ImgBurn is not the issue.
  2. No, new and scratch-free The image is Windows XP Home with SP3 Retail. Is the disc data copyrighted and that's causing the verify issue, or is it a bad burn? Just throwing that out there.
  3. Updated to current version; same issues. I 19:51:11 Verifying Session 1 of 1... (1 Track, LBA: 0 - 289137) I 19:51:11 Verifying Track 1 of 1... 4. Sounds as a rebadged Optiarc AD-7240. Is that good or bad?
  5. LOL That's the place from which I am ordering.
  6. I just ordered a laser-lens cleaner for seven bucks. If it fails, I lose little money and know trashing the drive is the right thing to do. Then I'm going to get a Lite-On IHAP322-98 for twenty-seven bucks. Either way, I win. I just might have to pay a little for a burner that's more than good enough for somebody that will use it once or twice a half-decade.
  7. Yes I do, but in case of having one laying around or could borrow one from a friend, it worth a try. In your case better buy a modern drive. What's the most compatible and highest quality brand burner for using only Verbatim media?
  8. I disassembled the drive months ago but couldn't get to the lens. I was going to carefully clean the lens with a Q-tip, but some round grey piece covers the lens, and I didn't want to force something and break the thing. Don't you think a laser-lens cleaner is a waste of money? They're probably $20 and a new drive is $30. Thanks for confirming what I already knew: buy a real drive. The ImgBurn support is AAA. No sooner do I post a question, I receive an answer. I'm sure it's great software. It uses just 3 MB of disk space, and the software even has logic to assist the user so they don't make a mistake. That's too cool and exactly the way all software should be designed.
  9. It is. I could buy a PATA one for $30. But isn't there a way to fix the problem with this burner?
  10. Yes, your drive can only burn that disc at 4x Your drive is old and don't support well the new media. Maybe if you clean the laser head a bit with a cleaning disc will help. I thought all burners could write slower than their rated write speed? Yes, it's a lousy HP (really NEC) from early 2000. I hardly burn. I just want to use it to burn a BartPE and Windows OS install disc. I've had nothing but problems with this burner. I've spent over 50 dollars in Verbatim media because it's supposed to be one of the most compatible brands. First the 4x DVD+RWs gave write errors, and the Verbatim engineer switched them with 2.4x's. That worked for a short time, but then I did a firmware update, and the drive became LESS compatible and stopped detecting the discs. Then I switched to 12x CD-RWs, and they also worked for a short time. I tested the discs and even used them a handful of times. Then all of a sudden when I really need the disc, the media complains of missing random files. Now the problem is 4x CD-RWs. I know I probably need a new burner, but I hope this can be fixed, because I really don't want to buy a device I'll use sparingly.
  11. I'm using a 4x burner and new Verbatim 4x CD-RW. I set ImgBurn to write at 2x or 2.4x, but it only writes at 4x. Also, it reports an I/O Error at about 30 percent Complete. The media supports a write speed of 2x-4x. Does the burner support a write speed of only 4x? ; //****************************************\\ ; ImgBurn Version 2.5.4.0 - Log ; Friday, 14 January 2011, 16:16:46 ; \\****************************************// ; ; I 15:15:06 ImgBurn Version 2.5.4.0 started! 12. There's a tutorial for people that like to slipstream new service packs into whatever came on their disc (SP0, SP1, SP2 etc). Thank you and Cynthia for the clarification.
  13. Thank you for your prompt reply. In general and not just ImgBurn, how do you determine if an ISO is bootable?
  14. Thank you for your prompt reply. Then why does the maker of ImgBurn make the Windows XP ISO bootable in his tutorial if it's already bootable?
  15. Hi, I downloaded an ISO of Windows XP Home Edition with SP3, and I'm ready to burn. Please answer these questions: 1. Is every bootable ISO already bootable, or must you make it bootable before burning? 2. May you burn a bootable ISO to a CD-RW, not CD-R, or does this increase media-drive incompatibility? (I use only CD-RWs.)
