solved! turns out the file i was trying to copy was not an iso file after all. d'oh !!!! thanks for the input though.

forgot to reply to this bit: "What it say in the status line at the bottom of the main window? If you take the disc out, is it changing that line?" ########## the status line says 'ready' and then i take disc out it says 'device not ready - medium not present - tray open'

hi, i do have a cd in the drive. it is a maxell cd-r and i can copy other files to these without any problems e.g. audio, mpeg etc. i have upgraded to sp2 and here is the new log file: I 15:44:13 ImgBurn Version 2.5.5.0 started! I 15:44:14 -> Drive 1 - Info: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7561A GH09 (D:) (ATA) I 15:44:14 -> Drive 2 - Info: XUHGHWP 9I3OTQJ0PM 1.03 (F:) (SCSI) I 15:44:14 Found 1 DVD±RW/RAM and 1 BD-ROM/HD DVD-ROM! i still get the same error message.
