  1. Okay, so I unticked 'Prefer Properly formatted discs'. And also ticked 'Prefer format without spare areas'. Then I did a full format in IMGBurn. This took a few seconds and reported that it worked fine, and the disc is ready for use now. So everything seems fine now. Thanks again. I will format these BD-RE discs like this in future because burning 50GB at 0.9x is not fun ! I 19:21:29 ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 started! 2. Thanks for the reply. In the end I did a 'full' format via Windows explorer.... which was clearly not a full format because it took like 10 seconds. But now I can burn it in IMGBurn. It's going at 0.9x instead of 2x which I guess is the hardware defect management. I turned on fast-write and im getting 2x Will burning unimportant data to the disc once and then verifying accomplish the same thing as a full zero of the disc ? The point of a full zero is to identify bad areas and re-allocate them?

I have burned 100s of BD-Rs in this drive and system but only 2 or 3 BD-RE and at the time I formatted and burned those via Windows.
  4. Hi, I got a few BD-RE DL to play with and yesterday I tried to use one with IMGBurn. I formatted it first. Drive > Disc Erase > Full I knew it would take a long time (I assumed a couple of hours) but I left it running overnight and 14 hours later it was still in progress. I eventually force-quit IMGBurn. When I looked at the disc (i needed to reboot to access the optical drive) it seemed like only the tiniest part of the disc had been written to. Like maybe 5% of the disc. I started the process again this morning to see if I would have better luck but 2hrs later still no sign of progress. The optical drive light stays constantly on for most of the time, then flashes brielfly a couple of times. There is very little noise coming from the drive. Unfortunately Windows resource monitor doesn't show the optical drive so I can't see what activity is taking place (eg how much MB/s is getting written). IMGBurn log final entry says 'erasing disc' and thereafter there are no more updates in the log window. It doesn't appear to hang or crash, it just doesn't tell me what is currently happening (status says 99% almost immediately and stays at 99%). How long should it normally take? How long should I give it this time before assuming something is wrong and trying another program to format it? I 09:23:03 ImgBurn Version 2.5.8.0 started! 5. Got a new drive (Liteon iHBS112) and I have burned 20+ in a row without any of these error messages. Thanks for the support Lightning, thread can be locked.
  6. I have a new drive coming next week so I wont burn any more discs til it comes. Although what I am burning is RAR files split across two discs and when I extracted with WinRAR it didn't give any errors so I think all the data is there on the disc. Thanks for the advice.
  7. Im looking back over the logs from the past few days and I realise this is happening more often than I thought. Most of the time it doesnt give the error pop-up dialogue, it just retries and it seems to work after the first retry. Does that mean in this cases (where the error box doesnt pop up) everything is okay? I 12:13:34 Operation Started! I 12:13:34 Building Image Tree... I 12:13:34 Calculating Totals... 8. Okay thanks for the reply. I will just burn that one again and in future maybe give my drive a break to cool down every hour or two.
  9. Hi, I got the 'Program memory area update failure' message and I am just trying to understand what went wrong. Bad disc? Bad drive? Burnt too fast/slow? The discs are Verbatim DVD+R 4.7GB 16x and my drive is LG GH22NS50. After it gave me the message I just clicked continue. Is it just a bad disc? I was running IMGburn for a few hours, could that be the problem, maybe a memory leak or something? After the verify stage it said 'Operation successfully completed', does that mean the burn went okay? Thanks
  10. I think I figured it out. MKVMerge is an a/v splitter so it cannot split at an arbitrary point, it has to split at the end of a video chunk. So when I tried it on different movies, they were all different sizes by a few MB. I guess I just have to double-check it every time, and adjust the split size if it gets too big. Thanks for the reply.
  11. Hi, I am trying to backup some movies to DVD 4.7GB The movies are over 4.7GB so I split with MKVMergeGUI - this has a built in options for split size, which i think corresponds to burnable media...there is 700M, 703M, 4483M, 8142M, etc So I pick 4483M and after split it gives me this size (when I check in Windows): Size : 4.38 GB (4,708,319,078 bytes) Size on disk: 4.38 GB (4,708,319,232 bytes) Anyway, when I try to burn it seems to be too big, by about 1MB. So my question is - is this preset option in MKVMerge 'wrong' ? Should I change it to 4482 or 4481? It seems to be a popular and well known program, so if there was a mistake in the split size I would have thought it would be fixed... Or is it possible to cram the data onto a single-layer disc by changing some option? Thanks
