  1. Thanks for replying, I do have three 1TB external drives (All near full capacity), And it seems to be the same irrespective of media. I've been looking a bit deeper and I think it may have something to do with Windows' lack of a DMA controller. At least, It's reporting that no drivers are installed even though it's listed in device manager? Bizarre!
  2. Hello all, For the past few weeks I've been attempting to burn off my parents data that they've accrued over the years (160GBs), As I need to reformat their machine. I've got a sound enough knowledge of computing (Programmer/Tech support by trade) but even I'm stumped on this one. The problem is that the DVD-Rewriter is simply not performing upto scratch. It's rated as 16X for DVD-R/RW/DL(+/-) but rarely seems to rise above 8x-9x and sometimes not above 4x (Although on these occasions I had been tinkering with ImgBurn). I'm almost certain that there is a solution to this problem, I just don't have the comprehensive knowledge of Optical drives and disc authoring that perhaps most members who frequent this forum do! I know some might say that the speed isn't horribly slow and therefore acceptable enough for most, But I've got a lot of burning to be doing and want my moneys worth from the hardware! It has no problems reading data, Just burning it slowly. I've made sure DMA is turned on both in BIOS and within XP, And tried clicking on "Reset DMA" in ImgBurn which says "No resettable ATA channels with Windows drivers found". I've also updated the firmware to the latest version and tried playing around with the different interface settings, all to no avail! I've included as much information about this system as I thought necessary, I thank everyone in advance for any help you might be able to give.
