  1. Don't feel too bad - MicroCenter just sold me the exact same DVD Combo unit this afternoon as a dual-layer bluray burner. Taking it back tonight to hopefully swap for the right one!
  2. Oh yeah, I knew that was nothing for data. It was just a quick file to grab to show the error. It also shows that it doesn't matter what the size of the file is, it's just not going to burn. I couldn't find the crossflash program and with the LG updater not finding the drive, I was stumped. Many thanks for the help! I'll let you know what happens. BTW - have used Imgburn for ages and have always loved it. Don't know what I'd do without it. KJB
  3. Sorry - didn't put those two things together and even think about the log. The way the boxes lay out on my screen winds up hiding the log box a lot of the time. I just did the same thing again and here's the log: I 11:52:22 -> Drive 1 - Info: HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH10NS30 EL00-07 (K:) (USB) I 11:52:22 Found 1 BD-RE! I 11:52:38 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... 4. I'm using the current version of ImgBurn with a Buffalo BR-X816U2 external blu-ray drive (the actual internal hardware is supposedly an HG drive). It recognizes 50GB Dual Layer BR discs just fine but every time I try to burn something on them I get an error message that reads "IO ERROR", followed by error messages that "SK Interpretation: Medium Error" and "ASC/ASCQ Interpretation: Power Calibration Failure" (sorry I don't have screen shots but I couldn't get it to work). The error happens almost immediately and nothing appears to be getting written to the drive. I'm sure this probably isn't a software error but after seeing some similar problems and potential fixes posted, I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm using Philips BD-R DL media and the error comes up on every disc in the spindle. I've tried a couple other burning programs with no luck. A user here commenteg that he'd changed the HyperTuning settings but the program gives me an error message "Invalid Field in CDB" when I attempt to use the Advanced Tools for the drive. I did check for new firmware and there appears to be a fairly recent (July, 2012) firmware update but the installer it's bundled with can't find the drive. Pulling up the drive stats in ImgBurn, it doesn't even have BDR DL writing / reading as an option, ticked box or not (it does show BDR "XL", whatever that is). Nero Info Tool shows BDR DL AND BDRE DL as read / write options, however. I am close to shooting myself in the brain over this one. I am completely stumped. Dual Layer BD-R's are tad too pricey to just toss and every piece of documentation for this unit says it SHOULD write these disks, albeit at a max speed of 2X. Many thanks in advance. KJB
