I have a Pioneer BDR-XD04 DVD/BD burner (1.30 firmware) and just picked up a couple Maxell BD-RE DL disks today. When trying to erase the disk, I start getting errors once the process reaches 48%

and so on ...
When the errors occur, the drive seems to spin down and then spin back up.
Is this just a case of crappy media (I figured Maxell would be decent) or could something else be wrong? These are the first rewrittable BD disks I've used. The process is currently at 52%, continuing to produce errors. I'm guessing it will eventually finish, but I doubt the disk will be all that reliable in the end.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
EDIT:
I've attached the full log, from the currently running process.
