I did think that 'Test' meant testing the burning program and the drive, and possibly the media, but both of you agree that it does not test the media. I attempted repeated burns from the same source file but with new discs each time, so presumed the media were at fault. Anyway, I have now successfully completed 2 burns (using a freshly created ISO file) on a different computer using ImgBurn and more of the same MCC discs, so I take it that my drive is probably the problem, as dbminter originally suggested. But I might try once more with the fresh ISO . I'll deal with the apparently faulty drive when I can, but for the moment the problem is circumvented. Thank you both for your help.

The drive hasn't been used that much in the last 4-5 years, and mostly to burn CDs, not DVDs. don't know if that's relevant. And yes, a test run was completed without interruption at 4X. In each case the destination file was a Verbatim MCC 02RG20; the CMC in the first run was the source from which I copied. I'm intending to start afresh with the source too. I'll do that and report back later. Thanks for the replies and advice.

Yes, I have successfully burned discs with this drive previously. The drive is in an ASUS laptop (slimline, so apparently suspect?) which is only 5 years old, running Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium. But the Verbatim disks have been lying around for about the same time, so they may be faulty-hence the repeated attempts. One of those failed attempts was preceded by a test run which completed successfully.. Thanks for the tips. I will get some RW media and try again, also with a new ISO image. Any other suggestions welcome too.
