    To get back to your original concern, I wouldn't be worried about it in this case.  While it is annoying to get slower speeds like that, at least there were no read errors.  Were there any Retries?

    There were no retries. Everything is in the log. The burn was successful. It's the reading speed at the layer break during verification that got me worried. Here is the log again from my second attempt:

    So far, I've tried several times the verification of the burnt disc and I've got no errors. Maybe it's a Pioneer thing considering that they have this feature built-in called Advanced Quiet Drive or It could be a result of OPC with the power calibration laser strategy that was used during the burn.

    In case of BD-R XL TL the speed at which they're read is always constant at 6x from the beginning to the end of the verification. Funny thing is that I've burnt several of these as well and I've had no problems with them compared to DL media. Maybe it's because that they're made better. Here is an example of BD-R XL TL here:

    @dbminter: I've tried to burn the same folder using another disc and everything was fine until the verification process when at the layer break (53%) the speed dropped suddenly at 2x and stayed there until the end. In the end it says that then burn was successful. Here is the log:

    That is true. Another option would be the MediaRange BD-R DL non-printable which also have the same MID (VERBAT-IMf-000) as these ones. Other than that, I don't know what else to do.

    OPC is the Optimal Power Calibration setting that ImgBurn is using when burning unknown MID's or lower grade media which this isn't the case.

    These Verbatim's that I'm using are made in Taiwan and are the ones that are packaged in single jewel cases. They are called Verbatim # 43747 and have VERBAT-IMf-000 as the ID so in principal they should the right stuff. I've also used the 10 pack spindles called # 43746 and in general I've had successful burns, but every now and then I'm getting a coaster even though I'm writing at 2x speed.

    It is quite common for errors to occur at layer breaks of multi-layer media.  The problem is a poor implementation of the write strategy in the firmware.  This can generally only be fixed by updating the firmware or trying a different BD burner that might like those media better.

     

    The easiest and cheapest solution is to first check for a firmware update for your Pioneer.  In Write mode, right click on the Pioneer drive in the drop down list of target devices and choose the last option in the context menu which should say something like Check for firmware updates.

     

    Other than that, I'd try an LG drive like the WH16NS60, which is what I use.  I've never used BD-R DL media, but I have used BD-RE DL from Verbatim in the NS60 for many years.

    I'm actually using the latest firmware according to the manufacture's site: https://pioneer.jp/device_e/product-e/ibs/device_e/dev00002r_e.html#BDR-212EBK

    What other suggestions do you have? Could this happen because I've enabled OPC before write option?

    The only option in this case would be to try at the lowest speed allowed of the burner and with 'Perform OPC Before Write' enabled. I've had this issue in the past with CMC junk media and from what I recall this was the only way I could get the rest of them to write & verify without errors at the layer break. I hope it helps :)

    @dbminter: Thank you kindly for your advice :) .Nevertheless what do you think I should try to do with the remaining disks because unfortunately I can't return them back since I bought an entire Maxell DVD+DL 25 disk spindle not knowing they were CMC junk :(. Do you think for example checking the option Perform OPC before write in Imgburn could be a workaround? Also I've searched for a firmware update for 24D5MT model, but I didn't find anything for it.

    I'm getting the following error when burning a double layer disc from Maxell. I've wasted 6 disks up to now trying to figure it out, but with no success. The error always occurs at the layer break when veryfing the burned media. This is my log:
