  1. i thiink i may have learnt that the hard way. Thanks for the pointer for the yuden disks. Can you point me towards a source for good low cost drive. Thanks
  2. That has been my experience with cd writer, this is my first DVD writer. ok so do you think the drive may be faulty? Any way to test? Thanks
  3. I spoke too soon, burnatonce is giving the same problem now. So now it looks as if it is a media problem. Can anyone who is using this drive make a recommendation for cost effective CDs Thanks
  4. I have finally managed to change the firmware, but unfortunately this hasn't improved the situation. Strangely it may be an ImgBurn problem as i have been able to make the cd using a piece of software called Burnatonce and verify it successfully with ImgBurn. I wonder if i have a setting wrong or if there is something else i can do to improve. In the meantime i will use Burnatonce for CDs and will experiment with ImgBurn for DVDs.
  5. Sorry just to make it clear, i bought the drive second hand on ebay, so i don't think you can blame anyone but me!! Seems as if it hasnt been used a great deal and i am not expecting to hammer it. Interesting if it has a non-standard firmware installed though. I will try the firmware recommended later this week if i have time. Thanks
  6. Thanks for the info. I had no idea that you could change the firmware. Is it worth a change, could the non-standard firmware be causing the problems? I think my first disk, the one done at max speed probably would be usable, but as it is a backup copy of an installation disk, i need to be as sure as i can be that it is going to work when i need it to. The later disks done at slower speeds with the seek error at the start of the disk are not useable. Thanks for all your help so far Graham
  7. My first attempt was at Max speed, it caused buffer under-runs but seemed to complete ok. However, verify failed again, but much further through the disk. 8. Having problem burning a cd from an iso file. All 4 disks i have tried to burn have failed to verify. The disks are philips and worked about 90% of the time with a previous drive. Just bought this NEC DVD RW drive and needed software to write DVDs so have tried imgburn. Havent tried to burn a DVD but the CDs are having problems. Have tried dropping the speed to 1x but this still doesnt help. Below is log file from my last attempt. I have read a lot in the forum about the media being a problem or is it more likely that the writer is at fault. It did come second hand from ebay, but externally there appears to be little sign of wear. Any advice would be appreciated I 22:30:04 Operation Started!
