geo har Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 (edited) 2.5.0.0 set speed to AWS or MAX on 10x CD it burns at 4x return to 2.4.4.0 it burns at 10x Edited July 31, 2009 by geo har
LIGHTNING UK! Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 please post the complete log from 2.5.0.0 and also the disc info from the panel on the right when you're back on the main Write mode screen.
spinningwheel Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Discs do not start out at the requested speed, especially if it's set to burn at max. The disc has to ramp up to the speed selected. Look at your completion bar in your submitted jpegs. The 2.4.4.0 is nearly twice as far in the graph as the 2.5.0.0. Look at the completion data once the disc has been verified and you should see the final speeds obtained...oh yea...get back to 2.5.0.0 as we do not support earlier versions in the least. edit: rats too slow....
geo har Posted July 31, 2009 Author Posted July 31, 2009 (edited) I did wait till drive gets up to speed, as you can see the time is about the same 1min I was wondering why the CDs were taking longer than the usual 10 mins = 8min burn + 2min verify BTW I've kept 2.4.4.0 settings. shall try NOT keeping them if all else fails. here is another screen shot to show that the amount burnt doesn't matter now have to work out how to get to the log file & disk info Edited July 31, 2009 by geo har
spinningwheel Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 The laws of physics will always prevail. The inside of the disc spins slower than the outside (distance and data write space available). Where is the 2.5.0.0 log as requested by the Boss ???

geo har Posted July 31, 2009 Author Posted July 31, 2009 BTW there is a difference in the Disc info in the when using Build vs Write Performance (Write Speeds): vs Performance (Write Speed): note the extra "s" in the Build mode, <Device> tab, Disc info.

(MODE1/2048, LBA: 0 - 341775) I 01:05:28 Abort Request Acknowledged I looked and didn't find a newer firmware so it looks like your burner is up to date. I looked that the Verbatim MCC identifier and ithe discs have a slightly mixed set of reviews, but not really all that bad. Why did you abort 87 seconds into the burn? I need to remember to follow the advice not to use .0 versions ImgBurn goes through a serious amount of testing before a new release is issued, so the .0 remark is really not necessary or on topic.
spinningwheel Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 working out how to delete posts Nope, just like ringing a bell...once it rings you can't take it back..... Later all, almost quitting time and I have to get home...have a nice weekend.
geo har Posted July 31, 2009 Author Posted July 31, 2009 (edited) thx for checking out burner firmware for me also CD quality I'm waiting for the CDs to die, won't be buying more of them since DVDs burn at a faster rate & have more capacity. BTW DVDs burn OK. > Why did you abort 87 seconds into the burn? taking too long have a real thing about time. can sense when things are not taking the same amount of time as before. Cynthia Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 I have the same discs (media code) as you have and these can be burned at 10x with ver 2.5.0.0. I guess it's Verbatims you also have? You are burning on the fly. If you create an image first when you are in build mode (set output device to Image File) and then burn the created image file in the write mode - do you get any faster speeds then? geo har Posted July 31, 2009 Author Posted July 31, 2009 (edited) thx Cynthia for your reply > I have the same discs (media code) as you have and these can be burned at 10x with ver 2.5.0.0. I guess it's Verbatims you also have? They are TDK CD-RW80HS High Speed 700MB on the label it says 4 - 12x MultiSpeed Compatible but I've never seen it burn at 12x. has always been 4x or 10x. > You are burning on the fly. If you create an image first when you are in build mode (set output device to Image File) and then burn the created image file in the write mode - do you get any faster speeds then? just tried creating image file & burning, still 4x I think I shall try deleting my settings in: C:\Users\e\AppData\Roaming\ImgBurn\ Edited July 31, 2009 by geo har
Cynthia Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 The only thing in the 2.5.0.0 version that I could find in the change log that might could trigger this odd behavior is this Changed: When burning a CD, the program will now also issue the 'SET STREAMING' command (where supported and in addition to the existing 'SET CD SPEED' one) to set the write speed. What would happen if you set the write speed to 10x instead of MAX in the write speed selection box?
geo har Posted July 31, 2009 Author Posted July 31, 2009 (edited) have deleted settings, uninstalled / reinstalled ImgBurn 4x can't wait till 2.5.1.0 didn't have this trouble with previous versions will try 10x as you suggest. I am a canary, tend to be one of the first to pick up errors in s'ware. It is a challenge. at least I'burn doesn't hog the CPU like burnaware 2.3.8 they said that they will fix this 100% CPU usage in 3.0.x just tried 10x speed same. I shall leave this for now & go back to 2.4.4.0 thx 4 your help looks like I'm not the only one with slow MAX speeds http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtop...mp;#entry100527 at least this has got me to review my setup instructions. it is good to test one's insurance policy from time to time to make sure that they will pay up when the time comes. dontasciime Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Firmware in the Philip's drive is not really geared towards the media you are using. eg 2.4x on dvd-r is not valid and the firmware has just turned 3 years old, maybe time for a new drive Also what about the solidburn slowing stuff down as per it's job.
