Phatboy Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 I've read through most posts about this. I've updated my firmware. I'm using Verbatim DVD +R DL for media. I made a lot of coasters with DVDD and Nero.......only one successful burn. I recently installed ImgBurn and with a recent firmware update I was able to do a successful burn. I ripped another and burned and got the usual error message: I 19:59:27 ImgBurn Version 1.2.0.0 started!I 19:59:27 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2) I 19:59:27 Initialising SPTI... Kenadjian Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 DVD+R DL (Disc ID: MKM-001-00) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 8x) I 20:01:08 Write Speed: MAX I would be very tempted to slow your burn speed to 4X max, 8X on DL is very "heavy duty". Is the media you're using actualy rated at 8X?

I am, by far, not an expert in this, but do you have another application that you might be able to use to create the DL image file? I've backed up "Flightplan" perfectly fine, but only using a single layer. However, I've read in other threads that some applications don't create DL images properly (or as well as others). Perhaps if you used another application to create your image, you may have more success. Just a thought... Edited April 3, 2006 by Flawless115

Kenadjian Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Failed to Write Sectors 0 - 31 - Session Fixation Error Writing Lead In I would say you have drive/media compatability issues. Does it write DVD5's ok?

Kenadjian Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Supported Write Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 8x Yes, I could see that in the log, and that's what worries me, this media is only rated at 2.4X yet your drive is reporting 4X and 8X, do you know what your media is rated at? Sometimes the drive will return higher speeds than the media rating, however this is most unusual for DL media.
Kenadjian Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Are the buffers nice and steady while burning the DL media? Actually the Device buffer is all over the place. Ok, check this out to start of with. It's a windows caching problem. Seems windows doesn't cache me reading in the 4gb file if I read in 64k chunks. As I switched to 256k (to hopefully speed things up!), it now caches everything and eats all your memory. This was reported lastweek sometime and fixed almost immediately. Get 1.2.1.0 when I release it and you'll be fine. Cheers for reporting it though.

I took the following quote from : Verbatim Website Verbatim DVD+R DL discs burn up to 8X speed with compatible high speed DVD+R DL drives. Saving you about 24 minutes per burn But they seem to contradict themselves in any other literature about DL. Most actually mention 2.4 only.

The only other thing that I can think of, other than the fact that the drive is just not capable of burning DL media, is to check your DMA settings, please read the link I've posted, go to post #2. http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=59 Let us know how it goes.
lfcrule1972 Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 Given the patchy performance at burning DVD+R DL's with this Sony drive I wonder if its fooked ? For whatever reason it doesn't seem to like burning the best available DL media out there...... I don't suppose you have another drive capable of burning DL's ?
Phatboy Posted April 3, 2006 Author Posted April 3, 2006 check your DMA settings, please read the link I've posted, go to post #2I uninstalled my IDE controller ( I have XP ) and rebooted. DMA is enabled.I even re-updated my firmware. Still no luck. Tried one last burn which failed. Given the patchy performance at burning DVD+R DL's with this Sony drive I wonder if its fooked ? I'm going to wait for the next release v1.2.1.0. If that doesn't work my wife's XMas present gets returned.
