DVD burning woes

W 21:38:30 Failed to Write Sectors 236000 - 236031 - The semaphore timeout period has expired.

 

This is hat I get, I get it on both DVD Decryptor and Imageburn.

 

I am using an external 16x dvd burner (3mos old) connected to my USB on my laptop. When I use the internal on my laptop everything is fine just very slow. What am I doing wrong, it has to be me I think. I have tried checking the properties in the explore menu's but am baffled.
