Shamus_McFartfinger Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I 15:00:22 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: CMC MAG-E01-00) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 8x) Throw your disks out and grab some Taiyo Yuden or Maxell or Verbatims. CMC media is pretty bad. They really are garbage.
deek Posted April 20, 2006 Author Posted April 20, 2006 HP lightscribes are not good? I 15:00:22 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: CMC MAG-E01-00) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x, 8x) Throw your disks out and grab some Taiyo Yuden or Maxell or Verbatims. CMC media is pretty bad. They really are garbage.
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Regardless of what packaging your disks came in, they are still CMC Magnetics (you can see for yourself where it says ?Disc ID? above. They are really, really bad and have been for years and not worth the pain or effort in attempting to get a quality burn.
Flawless115 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Regardless of what packaging your disks came in, they are still CMC Magnetics (you can see for yourself where it says ?Disc ID? above. They are really, really bad and have been for years and not worth the pain or effort in attempting to get a quality burn. From what it sounds like, even if you manage to burn to the disc, the playback is questionable; perhaps not in the short run, but definitely in the long run.
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 You?re spot on. CMC disks are terrible. 99% will fail to verify after burning. The other 1% will fail eventually. They are very, very bad.
deek Posted April 20, 2006 Author Posted April 20, 2006 (edited) wow. Thank you all for your expertise! Are there any lightscribe-enabled discs that are worthy? You?re spot on. CMC disks are terrible. 99% will fail to verify after burning. The other 1% will fail eventually. They are very, very bad. Edited April 20, 2006 by deek
lfcrule1972 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 You would need to find a retailer (probably an online one) that shows you the Media ID of the discs you are buying. As you now know the name on the box has little to do with who makes the discs..... I am not sure which of the quality disc manufacturers are making Lightscribe discs at the moment...... Where in the world are you ? Country will be fine - not full address
deek Posted April 20, 2006 Author Posted April 20, 2006 California, USA, thank you! You would need to find a retailer (probably an online one) that shows you the Media ID of the discs you are buying. As you now know the name on the box has little to do with who makes the discs..... I am not sure which of the quality disc manufacturers are making Lightscribe discs at the moment...... lfcrule1972 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Ok well this place gets recommended by other forum members in the US - you may already use them I don't know..... I think the problem is that few manufacturers are making these Lightscribe discs at the moment..... http://www.meritline.com/search.html?ipKey...dvd-r&N=1&sBy=3 Have a look through all the pages on the above link thos as I spotted some Verbatim discs but being at work didn't have a chance to check the media ID
Flawless115 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 You may want to try this place also. If I'm not mistaken, I believe they're based out of CA, so you should be able to order discs, and have them delivered relatively fast. I ordered a cake box of TY's from them and received the order within two days without any problems. Keep in mind, I live in Maryland so I coughed up the money for the two-day delivery; since you live in CA, you may not have to. supermediastore.com
