Just splitting hairs here, since the written disk works in a DVD player and plays perfectly, but why won't it verify?

Stand alone players have some error correction if it encounters a sector it can't read. But you should see some sort of pause/pixelation in the early video part of titleset 1. (It could be the main movie or some trailer - I have no idea how the DVD Video is structured based on your log).

Try this firmware update for your burner (remove any disc and close the tray before updating then reboot after it's finished). If it doesn't work, or doesn't help with your problem, then you'll need to use better media, such as Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden blanks, or get a new burner
