W 16:45:39 Retry Failed - Reason: Power Calibration Area Error I've tried looking for Firmware update but the only one i could find was not for my hardware and as i was burning one minute and then not the next i doubt it is firmware. I'm running a DELL XPS 1730 if that is of any help and the DVD's I am using are TDK DVD-R. Checked device manager and it believes the burner is working fine (not that I trust the device manager). Hope you can point me in the right direction. Thanx
Cynthia
If there is any later firmware you should find it on the Dell support page. If it worked before with the same setup I would try with a cleaning disc. Trying to write at some other speeds than the current 8x could also be worth a try. (Speeds: 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x)

Cynthia
The one on the Firmware HQ seems to be for Vaio computers. (Disc ID: TTH02) Never seen that media code before. What name/brand of the discs is it?

What name/brand of the discs is it? They are just standard TDK DVD's -R, dont think they are anything special.
