Burning 360 games incorrectly?

I have recently had perhaps an inevitable occurrence with having children. One of my favorite games for my XBOX 360 happened to get into my 2 year old's grasp while my wife was doing some cleaning while I was at work. :swear: Needless to say, a big gouge in the disc has made me quite upset, and has also made the disc inoperable. I therefore have decided to try to make backups of my remaining games. I have seen several posts regarding this as impossible to do, yet I still have questions. I have made copies onto my computer using the original game discs I have, and here comes the problem I am having. After the disc is read, I am given 2 files. The ISO file, and also a MDS file. However, when I go to write to a disc, I have tried several options. One is to just use the ISO, another time I used both the file types. Each time I did this, and placed the disc in my 360, I got an error message from my XBOX that reads "Please place this disc in an XBOX 360 console", or something to that effect. Also I have been using regular DVD-R's to do this thus far. Also, when I selected both the ISO file and the MDS file together to write to the disc, ImgBurn tells me after I do the burn to place a second disc in the drive to burn the image??? So today I bought some Verbatim 8x DVD+R DL discs. However, I am unsure as to which guide i want to use from this forums, or perhaps my XBOX is unable to play backups as Lightning stated here: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=12200 And again, I am sorry if I am asking a question that has already been answered. I am new here as this is my first post. Thank you to anyone that gives advice here, and I am always open to constructive criticism as well!!!

If you manage to copy the original disc or obtain it in some other way, it's very easy to burn it.

I am sorry, but I feel the need to repeat myself here. I have 2 files available for use. An ISO file and an MDS file. And I have tried the burn 3 different ways, each time getting the same error message:

1.)ISO file only

2.)MDS file only

3.)ISO and MDS files used together

And before it is asked, yes I did read that guide you have linked. Because correct me if I'm wrong, but doesnt the MDS file (Image) only have the image in it? Wouldn't you need to also have the data file as well (ISO)?

Well, if you want to waste a disc then burn from the .mds file as it has the layerbreak information. Even if you select the .iso file ImgBurn will tell you off and use .mds instead.
