malinka123
This topic was rised once but never answered. On some burners while using double layer disk DL mode and setting Layer Break to desired value, the disk gets burned with default half size for 0 layer. Member spudgun Noticed specific ODD burner-drive with this problem TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223C SB01 (D:) (ATA) See http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=13049 I have seen some others as well. Is that bad driver? bad ODD? bad firmware? Any help please... Thank you very much in advance. ==========More details================ Under Win XP SP2, ImgBurn Version 2.5.1.0 In section of log below I note: I 01:50:43 Writing Layer 0... (...) I 02:16:33 Source Media Type: DVD+R DL (Book Type: DVD+R DL) (Disc ID: RICOHJPN-d01-67) (Speeds: 4x) ImgBurn sends the set layerbreak command and then checks if it was correctly set, to which the burner answered OK: after this it depends entirely on the burner, its firmware and media support. The problem is that the blanks you're using are crap. Also notice that the booktype wasn't set to DVD-ROM, which not only ImgBurn does by default on Samsung burners, but the burner itself also does it. Update your burner's firmware and try burning at 6x or 8x. If that doesn't help then read this -> http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=8000
LIGHTNING UK!
Also, what controller is your drive attached to? (motherboard chipset make/model please) Any particular reason you've stuck with XP SP2?
malinka123
Thank you very much! Book type auto was selected like this Book Type: DVD+R DL I thought it was OK since this was the media type, I did not realized I should change it. I will update firmware, get better disks, change book type and report results back. I really appreciate your help.
malinka123
Dear LIGHTNING UK! Thank you very much for your help! It is SATA of the Asus A8V-E SE, could not get update for firmware/ drivers for this. No particular reason to use XP, except that PC is old... Tried Vista did not work well. Never tried Win 7. Time to get better PC I would guess.
LIGHTNING UK!
You shouldn't have to change the booktype, the program does it automatically but it's being blocked on your machine - probably due to to the drivers. I meant SP2 rather than the latest SP... which is SP3.
malinka123
OK guys, If you permit me I would like to share my experience that might be useful for other members. I Got the burner firmware updated. Executable model_***.exe (SH-S223C.exe in my case) with firmware did not work, showing message: "Can't find suitable drive for F/W" For other users of Samsung, the work around is to install full live update and run it Link is this: http://www.samsungodd.com/eng/Firmware/FAQ/Faq.asp This works smooth! Also got the drivers updated. Result with disc: (Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D01-67) was the same: Error on layer break. Mean time with new USB DVD-RW burner the same blank discs (same case even) are working just fine (several discs recorded, no fail) Exact info on burn-driver is this: I 22:52:55 -> Drive 3 - Info: SONY DVD RW DRX-S70U DJ07 (G:) (USB) So, I believe that Samsung burn-drive is "severely allergic" on RICOHJPN-D01-67 :-) Verbatim / Sony blank tests are pending tomorrow... Thank you a lot for useful and helpful hints. You are GREAT guys!!! As you sure already know, by now, from comments of other users of your SW. Best regards... malinka123
Statistics with TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223C SB01 Verbatim DVD+R DL x2.4 5 burns -> 5 (all) OK at write speed x2.4 Means Samsung burner is not that bad just needs some good blanks... Cynthia
Odd that the auto updater of firmware not installs the latest firmware.
