LIGHTNING UK!
Update the firmware on your drive. Earlier versions didn't support LTH media properly. http://www.firmwarehq.com/Lite-On/iHBS112%2B2/files.html You may also have driver issues, I can't be sure at this point. LIGHTNING UK!
What motherboard do you have and which controller is the drive connected to? I think it's messing up the error codes returned by the drive.

LIGHTNING UK!
Open up the case and make a proper note of any make/model numbers you can see on the board. What you've told me there is just a generic bit of text written on the bios screen. Yes, Verbatims are good discs. You've ordered the cheaper / less compatible LTH (low to high) ones though rather than the original HTL (high to low) ones. Your drive CAN burn them with the CL0F firmware (I did it myself for tests in the 'Drives' forum the other day), but your drivers are messing up the I/O command responses received from the drive. cornholio7
well i live in denmark so i can recommend some cheap stores here if that helps? good drives are nec/optiarc take a look in the drives section, a bit of research there may help you decide what suits you best regarding media, i use only taiyo yuden for single layer and verbatim for dual layer and taiyo yuden cd's
