Hi,

I am using a ASUS DRW-24B1ST firmware 1.04. This is the latest firmware. There is a long story behind this drive's firmware which you can read about here: http://club.myce.com/f87/something-odd-just-purchased-asus-drw-24b1st-firmware-now-1-04-man-09-2010-newegg-317360/

When I try burning to a DVD-RW using 1x speed it burns at 4x speed instead. Here is a log for your review:

Why was this posted in 'Bugs' ?

The program clearly shows that 4x is the only supported speed - this is according to your drive/firmware.

I 23:53:01 Destination Media Type: DVD-RW (Disc ID: CMCW03) (Speeds: 4x)

See, it's there in the log and it's also written in the disc info box on the right within the main screen.

Selecting anything other than 4x will give you the 'write speed miscompare' warning.

Wow, that's pretty terrible. I didn't know there was such a thing as drives that only supported 4x or higher. Is there any magical way for me to force the drive to burn slower? :) I ask because I've got some software complaining that it can't read my DVDs and online forums recommend trying 1x burn speeds.

Thanks,

Gili

Don't listen to old stories. That was a long time ago.

All you need is a good quality burn at whatever speed is that possible.

For that you need to try all the speeds available and always verify your burns.

Only that will ensure you that the disc is readable, at least in the drive that burned it.
