headso Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Ladies & Gents, As far as I can tell this is a pretty simple yet random yet unanswered questions among the boards. My problem is (and as far as I can tell only applies to my PS3 -- tested playback on the BD drive in my computer and its perfect) that when I play a burnt disc the video is being zoomed in on. Maybe I can't find the answer because I can't figure out how to explain myself. It's like my TV is (just for sake of argument) at a resolution of 1024x768 and the movie is playing at 1920x1080. Odd! So the back story... .MKV file formats (tried 2 or 3 different movie files but they all do this) Using MKV2VOB for conversion (was using TSMUXER but it kept messing with IMGBURN and causing data discs to be made) IMGBURN set to UDF 2.50 etc etc Anyone run into this before? Simple fix? Hopefully its just one simple unclicked or clicked option box that has wasted a bunch of f'ing DL discs! Could it be a PS3 setting that's wrong? Thanks for all the help, Adam

ianymaty Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 If it plays OK on computer than probably a setting of zoom or panscan is activated on PS3. I don't know (don't have PS3) but probably there is a master reset to factory defaults somwhere in settings of PS3 that you can use. You should leave verify enabled. You are using an outdated version of ImgBurn.
headso Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 Hrmmm the PS3 is farily new and i haven't ever messed with the settings. I'll do some checking on that one. I have a pretty new version of IMGBURN 2.5.2.0 (which i just updated to 2.5.5.0 thanks for the reminder) And as far as the 'Verify' option, i had just turned it off under guidance from another web guide (it has now been reclicked).
headso Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 Small Update** Loaded one of the DVD's on the PS3 and set the video to be only 1080i/1080p and the video only took up 2/3 of the screen at the top left corner. So there lays the problem. The video's i have must be some weird midsized format between 720 and 1080. Any ideas on how to make IMGBURN build that into the burn so the DVD plays on the native resolution of the disc drive?
headso Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 ^ I figured as much, so what am i doing wrong? Is my choice of processing the best route for converting a .mkv into a ps3 playable disc? It couldn't be the DVD DL discs i'm using could it? Memorex DVD+R DL 8x
Cynthia Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 It couldn't be the DVD DL discs i'm using could it? Memorex DVD+R DL 8x Without the verify option enabled, who knows?
Shamus_McFartfinger Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Could it be a PS3 setting that's wrong? You know you can change the zoom function of your PS3? Yes? Also, have you tried copying your converted .mkv file to the PS3 harddrive instead of trying to play from a disk?

Shamus_McFartfinger Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I used PS3 Media Server to playback files on my computer HHD over ethernet cable to PS3 with reasonable results. Does away with all the transcoding & burning... Just to be pedantic, PS3 Media Server does the heavy lifting. Matroska files (.x264) must be transcoded on the PC before sending the output to the PS3. It's still a cheap and effective way of doing things, though. Personally, I can't wait for a proper version of XBMC to make its way to the PS3.
headso Posted March 11, 2011 Author Posted March 11, 2011 I used PS3 Media Server to playback files on my computer HHD over ethernet cable to PS3 with reasonable results. Does away with all the transcoding & burning... Thanks, I am/was using VUZE and some of my files were converting into the media folder but then disappearing on the PS3 hence all the burning on to DVD DL talk. I downloaded that program and the above mentioned files worked perfectly. Done and Done!
Altercuno Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Well done. It also solves DTS, but as Shamus says, your pc has to be up to it. Another try was to link the TV and PC via HDMI and extend the desktop. XBMC has just been updated Shamus, but as for PS3? will it ever?
