I am trying to burn an Xbox 360 game using IMGburn, and so far have been rewarded with three coasters. I am using Verbatim 8X DVD+R DL 8GB discs made in Singapore, and my burner is a NEC DVD RW ND-3530A 2.01. The log is as follows:

Might want to try to update the firmware. Is it an original NEC writer or some rebadged one?

http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/NEC-ND-3530A/

The 4x write speed gives the same issue?

Hi

haven't tried burning on 4x, im a bit scared truth be told as i'm running low on discs and high on frisbees. I don't know if my NEC is the re badged one as you said, but if there is some way to find out i could help.

Do you think replacing the burner is a good idea? As i have already purchased one to try and aid the problem, could you maybe give me an opinion on whether it's suitable?

LiteOn ETAU108 Optical Drive with External Top Loader Design (Retail Packaging)

Looks like one of those Slimtype writers. I have a similar myself - eSAU108 (USB), and it's not that good as writer compared to the regular full height ones.

If you want an USB attached ones, get an Optiarc 7260 and mount it in an USB box.

Your current burner is a bit old, so it might help with a lens cleaning disc.

Thanks for your support, I cancelled the order on the slimline drive. I have found another one, do you think this one would be suitable for my computer's specs? And also, would I have to update any firmware with it because that process just baffles me.

I appreciate your help in the matter, as I just don't wanna burn anymore coasters.

Also, could you tell me why the slimline ones are are so bad compared to the bulky cousins.

Manufacturer: Lite-On

Never had a HP, but I would go for the original one instead. HP is not very good at releasing new firmware versions.

Also, could you tell me why the slimline ones are are so bad compared to the bulky cousins.

The whole construction is "down scaled" and not so robust as the full height ones and the max speed is not very often above 8x.

Thanks for your reply.

Is there any external burners you could suggest that don't require a caddy?

Also, what is the original HP drive that you spoke of? Or did you mean stick with the Slim LiteOn?

Define OK for me. I mean, are the xbox 360 burns actually useable? And what is the success rate of the drive. I don't mind burning on 2.4x as that is what is recommended.

I don't have a xbox. 2.4x as recommended speed is an urban myth.

Ok Gotcha. So by "OK Not Great", what does that exactly mean, in a pros and cons kinda way, and do you think it could handle burning a 360 disc (around 8GB)?

Posted

Should work if it has the same write strategies as mine.

Did a test burn (same DL media as you use) with mine and it went without issues at 3x (lowest possible speed).

I really, really appreciate the time you've taken to answer me, so thanks a lot.

One more question I swear.

I have found a drive that I am going to use to replace the drive i currently have in my PC. I was wondering if I could get you're pro opinion on it as I've heard that it is one of the best around:

At that link it states:

Condition:

Seller refurbished: An item that has been restored to working order by the eBay seller or a third party not approved by the manufacturer. This means the item has been inspected, cleaned and repaired to full working order and is in excellent condition. This item may or may not be in its original packaging. See the seller’s listing for full details.

Why don't get the brand-new Optiarc 7260 that Cynthia recommend for less? :blink:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sony-Optiarc-AD-7260S-DVD-RW-SATA-2MB-Internal-Black-/350455417725?pt=UK_Computing_LaptopAccessories_LaptopDrives&hash=item5198c54b7d

If you don't have SATA port on the motherboard, buy a cheap PCI adaptor and consider you just made an upgrade to your computer.

Hey thanks for the idea. Could anyone point me towards a suitable PCI Adaptor for the optiarc and maybe explain how to install it as I have never done it before. Thanks

OK, the problems continue.

I just got my new Pioneer 111d drive. I installed it internally and it booted fine and was instantly recognized.

BUT

Now when i try to burn, i get an error message saying ''Set L0 Data Zone Capacity Failed! - Reason: Power Calibration Area Error''

Have you tried 4x?

If it doesn't work, send it back.

You were semi told not to bother with such an old drive and to get an Optiarc 7260 or whatever instead. I'd never buy a second hand drive off ebay unless I needed that specific model for a specific 'one time only' purpose.

Posted (edited)

Hi

I did burn one successful disc at 8x but tried another game and I keep getting errors. I was going to get an Optiarc but realised that there was no option in IMGburn to change the booktype to DVD ROM, so is there any drive you can recommend that would burn an Xbox 360 backup game well and is supported in the Change Booktype options.

Also, would the optiarc work as well in an external caddy, as I can't be arsed with all this drive removal and replace business.

Thanks.

Thanks again man, you always talk simple sense. I was actually going to install it internally with a SATA card, I'm pretty good with that stuff.

I already bought one, take a look, tell me if you think it's suitable for my old fart of a computer.

One thing I gotta ask though, do you think the Optiarc will end all this crap I've had to suffer? It couldnt be the computer's fault after all this could it? You've seen the logs, what is your opinion?
