JWri Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Hi, I have searched the forum for possible answers before posting this, and dont seem able to resolve my current issue, so am hoping you guys can possibly help? Up until the last few days I have been for 3 years successfully burning DVD+R DL discs using IMG Burn on both my drives, namely PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-116D v1.09 (with latest driver 5.1.2535.0 1/7/2001)and showing as Location 1 (1)) in the IMG Location box and LG HL-DT-ST-DVD-RAM GH22LP20 (with latest driver, also ? 5.1.2535.0 1/7/2001) and showing as Location 0 (0) in the IMG Location box. Now I can only burn Single Layer (DVD+R/-R) on either of these burners. I have burnt approx 20 of the Dual Layer (combination of Verbatim MKM-003-00 and cheaper Memorex (DVD+R DL 8x)MBIPG101-R10-65. All have failed during the burn process on both burners having tried IMG BURN and also DVD Decrypter. My normal process is to burn using IMG BURN (and I am running the latest 2.5.6.0 (previously in the week was 2.5.5.0)at write speed of 2.4x with Verbatim DVD+R DL (MKM-003-00). As I said, have enjoyed this method of about 3 years and suddenly a few days ago it is impossible to burn a DL disc. I have tried to check numerous areas within the PC. On first inspection I noticed that in the PRIMARY IDE Channel>Advance Settings> DEVICE 0 DMA if available/Current transfer Mode was PIO Mode (was same for DEVICE 1), both were PIO Mode. It took me ages to find out how to change or force it to DMA mode, but after F2 into BIOS I noticed that it was as such: Drive 0 SATA-0 on Maxtor 7L25050 Drive 1 SATA-1 on Drive 2 SATA-2 on Drive 3 SATA-3 on Drive 4 PATA-0 on HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22LP20 Drive 5 PATA-1 (off) DRIVE ID = Unknown I then set Drive 5 PATA-1 to ON and continued with the reboot. (NOTE: Up until this time my PIONEER 116D was not shown listed under the DEVICE MANAGER>DVD-CD ROM Drives, only the LG HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22LP20). Afterwards it was listed. I then went back into the PRIMARY IDE CHANNEL<Advanced Settings> and noted that now it was showing as DEVICE 0 DMA if available with the Current Transfer Mode showing as ULTRA DMA Mode 4 (also for DEVICE 1) whereas previously they were both Current Transfer Mode PIO. I thought that this may cure it, but not! The problem with burning DL discs continues. Here is an attachment of the screen shot on my last attempt and I really am stuck as to how to proceed in an attempt to cure. Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated and I apologise in advance if I have not made myself clear. IMG BURN error 1.bmp
mmalves Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Please post the log from that burn (previous logs can be found in ImgBurn's Help menu).
spinningwheel Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Cut and paste the entire log without the screenshots of the popups over it please.

Dual-layer media other than Verbatim is dodgy in most cases, so stick with Verbatim whenever you can.

Dual-layer media other than Verbatim is dodgy in most cases, so stick with Verbatim whenever you can. In fairness I have tried several other routes, such as your suggested faster speed of 4x and 8x on my PIONEER 116D with Verbatim DVD+R DL (just have not got the logs). Did several times, and always a failure! Have also tried, again without success, with both the Verbs and Memorex DL discs on the LG burner - no luck. Yet I can burn Single Layer on either burner??!! Totally agree with your comment about using Verbatim discs though, just happened to have a batch of unused Memorex which I was using in an attempt to understand this issue. As I mentioned, until a few days ago, have been successfully burning on either the PIONEER 116D or the LG using Verbatim for last 3 years. Very strange!
mmalves Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Maybe if you've reached a bad patch of Verbatim discs in the spindle, so try discs from another spindle if you can. You could also try cleaning your burners with a lens cleaning disc, if you have one at hand.

Only got 4 more Verbatim discs to try and then that will be the whole batch of 25 as coasters!!! Thanks for all the suggestions.
