Only I/O errors lately

Hi,

I am a long-time user and have never had any grief from ImgBurn but with the last three disks (brand new TDK DVD-R) they have all exited early in the verify-process with Unrecovered Read Error as can be seen in the partial log-file output here (starting with the Export Successfully Completed! msg after the write) from one of the sessions:

I spoiled three disks before turning to the forum as I figured there might be something wrong with the medium but...also, I can play play other DVD's OK so the drive seems fine.

So, what gives here?

Your burner doesn't support the media you're using: the latest firmware is over 6 years old so it's very unlikely it supports blanks from the current market.

You could try a few brands in order to find one that works, or you could just get a new burner, which actually may be cheaper.

Right, thank you. I would have never figured that out by myself in a million years. Can you clue me in on how I can find these things out for myself? I mean like what type media the burner does support?

Trying different brands and discarding them until I find one that works seems an unsientific way to go about it, to say the least, and would be too much strain on my so-called economy - as well as buying a new burner.

Funny thing though - I have been using TDK DVD-R no problem up until just now - last week for instance. I just finished a 10-disk cake box day before yesterday. Hmm...go figure.

Thanks for the reply though.

TDK could have changed the dye they use in their blanks from one that your burner worked with for a new one that's unsupported by your burner.

To be fair I don't think there's media in the market that your burner has support, but I would try Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim blanks, since they work just fine when others have failed.

The best option, though, would be to get a new burner, something cheap like a Optiarc, LG or Samsung burner would most certainly work with the TDK media.

Yes, this sounds about right. I think I'll go with Verbatim - like you suggest it's hard to fail using them. Thanks for the burner suggestion. If it comes to that I think I'll go with LG as they have earned profund respect with me over the years.

They have surely come a long way since the tacky image they had back in the 80's: Lucky Goldstar video machines come to mind (yes, I was around then, I'm ancient - born in '57).

Again thanks for straightening me out.
