Why does my disk work?

Theftz22

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago I burned an ISO onto a blank DVD-R, no problem. I updated the ISO, replacing a few files and went to burn it onto the same type of DVD with the same DVD drive. It got through the first part of the burn, no problem. When I went to close the disk, it gave me a medium error with the interpretation of check condition. I retried a few times and concluded there must be a problem with the disk. I did the same operation on a different disk of the same type and got the same result. Here are the logs:

Now, after I finished this I decided to try to put the second DVD in my wii and see what happens just for science. A quick five minute test indicated that the game was fully functional! Any idea what's going on? Am I hallucinating? And should I be concerned that it technically "failed"?

Your burner seems to be having trouble reinitialising (after cycling the tray) the disc it just burnt. For some reason, it's reporting that the disc is a DVD-RAM disc, which obviously it isn't, it's a DVD-R.

Normally, that isn't a good sign as it either means the burn wasn't 100% or the drive is just faulty in general.

Try cleaning the drive with a cleaning disc (or manually). Try using better discs. Try burning at all supported write speeds - 2x isn't one of them but 4x and 8x are.
