ajclaw Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 This is mostly a curiosity since I rarely use them. I am unable to erase my Sony RW's. I've noticed this odd trend for years since using cd-rw's. They work for a few months, then they won't erase/write.
ianymaty Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Yeah, they tend to last less than is advertised. I don't realy trust RW's. Other problems are the dust, fingerprints and scratches on the surface.
ajclaw Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 Sorry, it's been awhile since I've responded... No, it has nothing to do with that, since ALL of them did it at the same time. Maybe since I changed my board? I have noticed also that this new one also reads in discs much more slowly than my last one. It worked the same way with XP as when I upgraded to Win 7 32 (after I noticed the trend).
ianymaty Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Make sure you have updated drivers installed for chipset/storage controllers.
ajclaw Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 I keep all my drivers up to date. My m/b is Foxconn P9657AB-8EKRS2H. I know it's an old board but have you heard of any problems like this? So far I've checked for problems with everything I can think of: drives, cables, power, cards, RAM, ventilation, drivers, programs. I just thought of something: I have my old rig set up elsewhere. I'll be out there in a couple of weeks. I'll see if I can make them work on it. If not, then 86. Like I said it's more a curiosity.
ianymaty Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Try them in other drive/computer see if that manage to work with them.
ajclaw Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 Yeah, I tried them in my old rig and the ones I hadn't tried to erase in the new one erased fine. They now work on my new rig. The ones I erased before didn't work at all. The system knew there was a disc but couldn't read it at all. So I guess my advice would be to erase all the discs you want to use with your new system.
ianymaty Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I would blame the quality of the new media.
