A New Guy
I use to have high success rate with Verbatim +DL, Plextor 716SA, with old firmware, old version (2.0.0.0) of imgburn. Here are the 4 steps I taken to try to resolve my problems. 1. Started getting these errors? How can this be "Operation Successfully Completed!"? Upgraded firmware and tried second spindle of Verbatim +DL but still producing bad dvds I 18:42:54 ImgBurn Version 2.0.0.0 started! LIGHTNING UK!
Get the 'Filter Driver Load Order' tool from www.bustrace.com and see which other drivers all your I/O stuff has to pass through before reaching the actual drive. Maybe there's a bad one in the list that's not playing nicely. Following the advice in the post about 'DMA' in the FAQ can also help fix the odd few problems. The verification errors in the first log post are all too similar for them to be fluke ones. It almost looks like the drive is reading 1 sector in front / behind itself. Are you sure you don't have any 'on-the-fly' tools running that might be changing that data?

cornholio7
have you tried burning them at 2.4x or 4x?
LIGHTNING UK!
Well your filter driver stuff is as clean as it could be. In that last log you're getting read errors, so either it's burning badly or it's reading badly (or a combination of the two I guess). Nothing obvious stands out (besides that 8x burning on 2.4x media that corny commented on above). Sorry but you're just going to have to keep messing with things until it works. A New Guy
cornholio7: I tried 2.4x in step 3. I gave it another shot in step 6 too just for good measure. LIGHTNING UK!: Thank you for your time. I hate reading all these cries for help with no happy endings posted so for those like me I will keep you updated on my search for "Operation Successfully Completed!" I tried the following tonight: 5. Verbatim DVD+DL burned ok in another computer so the spindle of discs should not be the problem. 6. Went back to Plextor drive. Uninstalled the serial ata controllers device drivers. another bad burn 7. Switched to -R to save money. Tried using another burning application. another bad burn 8. Uninstalled Realplayer. another bad burn 9. Uninstalled Microsoft Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility, Addbe Download Manager, Adobe Flash Player 9 Active X, and Mouse Suite. sucessful burn. 10 Switched to +DL. another bad burn I rarely see the same error twice. It seems hopeless to try and determine anything out of these error messages. They appear to be the same from many other burning applications too. A New Guy
I tried to buy a Plextor PX-760SA drive but it appears they are not available in North America. Maybe my 716SA is bad? The Benq has mostly been sitting on the shelf. It is used only to determining if burn problems are hardware or software related. What drive burns the Verbatim +DL the fastest and most accurately? My 716A did 6x 99% of time (until just recently). I can get another one but it seems foolish if the first one died early. There is a 755SA model available too. My preference is for SATA as switching back to an ATA burner would mean I would have to replace my 2 x 200 Gb ATA mirror with 2 new SATA drives. blutach
How's your cabling? Maybe, as corny suggested, slow things down a bit, since you're getting problems. 8x for DL is pretty fast burn. The only good one you've had is at 2.4x (other than 1 at 6x). I'd stick to that. Removing the device won't help with DMA. You need to remove the channel. I suspect it will be better on a DMA enabled IDE channel, although you have indicated this is sub-optimal. Regards
A New Guy
How's your cabling? I have reseated Plextor (SATA) many times. I can try borrowing another cable from a friend to eliminate it as a possibility. The Benq (ATA) is on a flat 80 conductor cable. I also tried a rounded 80 conductor cable too. It is the only drive on the cable and is plugged into the end. The jumper is set to master. The RAID on the motherboard is disabled in BIOS. Maybe, as corny suggested, slow things down a bit, since you're getting problems. 8x for DL is pretty fast burn. The only good one you've had is at 2.4x (other than 1 at 6x). I'd stick to that. Ok until I get this problem resolved it will only be 2.4x burns. Removing the device won't help with DMA. You need to remove the channel. I suspect it will be better on a DMA enabled IDE channel, although you have indicated this is sub-optimal. I followed the FAQ on DMA and uninstalled the controller. I read my comments from an earlier post and see how what I said could be confusing. Is this what you mean to remove the channel? I am using the NVIDIA nForce3 250 Parallel ATA Controller (v2.6) and NVIDIA nForce3 250 Serial ATA Controller (v2.6). Are there compatibility problems with this driver? blutach
I think you got it right re DMA - if there is still confusion, see fix your DMA in my signature. Shouldn't be compatibility issues with your controllers. Might be a buncha bad disks, or burner no good or burner don't like them. I feel for you, though. A New Guy
It is just like old times again. I have been making coaster after coaster. I had to take a break as I was out of money and Verbatim DVD+R DLs. I have since spent another $500 on this computer. But of course the second BFG GeForce 7900 GS OC (PCIe video adapter) was not meant to fix this problem. However I did try replacing my RAM with 2 x 1GB Mushkin Redline PC-4000. Also I have pulled out my 200 Gb Maxtor DiamondMax 10 SATA drive and stuck in an old 40GB Western Digital Caviar WD400EB drive in its place for testing purposes. Should a 5400 RPM hard drive be good enough or should I replace it with 7200 RPM? I have 4 new spindles of Verbatim DVD+R DLs. 37. tested new Plextor PX-755SA, 2.4, and +R DL. good burn 38. tested new Plextor PX-755SA, 2.4, and +R DL. good burn 39. tested new Plextor PX-755SA, 2.4, and +R DL. bad burn I 23:21:49 ImgBurn Version 2.1.0.0 started!
