stickbuilt
Greetings... New ImgBurn user here. I've searched the forum for some help, but can't seem to find my specific problem with regards to my drive. First question: Under the drives & Media forum, it is organized by Media type. Is there a way to optionally organize by drive type so that the user doesn't have to peruse through all of the media types to verify if his/her drive type has been tested against various (or any) media types? Where I am having a write error, I was interested to see what media has been successfully burned by my drive (an HP 740b DC 24). Secondly: I'm trying to burn a DL DVD recognized as type RICOHJPN-D00-01. It is having errors while trying to write the LeadIn. It doesn't appear that it's even started burning. Are the DVD's still usable or are they trashed at this point? Anyone have any idea why the write errors would be occurring? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Here's the log: (try to ignore the fact i apparently did a build twice....) I 21:07:14 ImgBurn Version 2.1.0.0 started! stickbuilt
Verbatim DL discs are the way to go we see problems with all others Thank you for your time. I updated the firmware on the HP 740b, bought some Verbatim DL, but still have same exact write errors. I've only burned a couple of SL DVDs with this drive before using Nero, but never tried a DL. Maybe the drive is a POS. I just love computers. Why can't these hardware manufacturers get anything right?
Kenadjian
Why can't these hardware manufacturers get anything right?Because they can't??? All jokes aside, did you burn the verb at 2.4X? If not try that. Can you also post the log from the failed verb burn please? Maybe the drive is a POS. This is also possible.

THe HI24 update (the one I did yesterday) has a release date of 2006-08-23. The HJ24 update has a release date of 2006-March. According to the dates, I've got the latest one. Do you suppose that the HJ24 has some updates that the HI24 doesn't include?

kevdriver
Your right back to where you started with this HI firmware....... hmmm...... try flashing to HJ firmware only and then try the burn again using your Verb media. Have you ever cleaned the burner using one of the available lens cleaner kits, pretty cheap and easy, just put it in burner and let it spin around and do its job. Just a thought, depending on how old your unit is.
stickbuilt
Your right back to where you started with this HI firmware....... hmmm...... try flashing to HJ firmware only and then try the burn again using your Verb media. Have you ever cleaned the burner using one of the available lens cleaner kits, pretty cheap and easy, just put it in burner and let it spin around and do its job. Just a thought, depending on how old your unit is. The drive is about 1 year old. I think I've actually only burned 1 DVD of a home video on a SL DVD using Nero. So it's had very little use... although that has no correlation to the dust that may have blown through the unit in the past year... I flashed back to HJ and tried to burn another Ricoh. It failed to initiate the burn. Unfortunately, I toasted my last Verbatim on the last attempt. I'll have to pick up some more tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll try a HJ burn on the verbatim. Here's the log for the ricoh with the HJ: I 21:58:26 ImgBurn Version 2.1.0.0 started! I 21:58:26 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2) I 21:58:26 Initialising SPTI... stickbuilt
kevdriver, my friend.... thanks so much for your help tonight. I'm calling it a day.. Morning comes far too fast... not enough time for dreaming... especially tonight!! THANKS again! I'll be back for another try tomorrow. It'll soon be time to make a decision on whether to just buy a drive that's known to work. I've toasted $20.00 worth of DVDs (3 Verbs and 7 Matrix). Too much more of this and I'll have been able to buy a new drive! Take care my friend.
kevdriver
Been doing some checking around and your not the only one having problems using this model of burner to do D/L discs. Quite a few people are having difficulty with this burner and firmware updates don't seem to help. Perhaps another forum member will read this and perhaps have another angle on solving your problems.
