This was pointed out to me by a good m8 today...

Well i'll not go into the wise and wears of being a Labour/Conserative voter but we are going to get shafted very soon if you do not sign up by the 20th of Feb,see belows message and stop this stupid taxation!!!!

Sarah Kennedy was on about this proposed car tax scheme on the radio

apparently there is only one month left to register your objection to the

'Pay as you go' road tax.

The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody

about it. Therefore at the time of Sarah's comments only 250,000 people had

signed it so far and 750,000 signatures are required to stop them

introducing it.

This is legit... from the 10 Downing Street's website.

Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address,

just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with a

link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition.

Democracy in action?

The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to

purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it.

The tracking device will cost about ?200 and in a recent study by the BBC,

the lowest monthly bill was ?28 for a rural florist and ?194 for a delivery

driver. A non working mother who used the car to take the kids to school

paid ?86 in one month.

On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will

know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been

going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can

probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill.

If you care about our freedom and stopping the constant bashing of the car

driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link

below) and pass this on to as many people as possible.

What happened?

And I still have to "press 1" for English!

@LFC - take the train! Presumably, that's what the tax is all about.

And I thought we had it bad here.

My train service does not begin early enough to get me to work on time (with connections) :( So I guess I could move nearer to work and pay all that lovely Stamp Duty to the :whatever: in Govt instead !!

From wiki (seems mostly accurate at a look thru)

Stamp duty land taxStamp duty land tax (SDLT) is a new tax in land transactions that was introduced by Finance Act 2003 and largely replaces stamp duty with effect from 1 December 2003. SDLT is not a stamp duty, but a form of self-assessed transfer tax. SDLT is charged on "land transactions" and for typical transactions in land, such as the buying and selling of a residential house, there is little change from stamp duty, except that a tax return is required to be made to the HM Revenue & Customs (previously Inland Revenue) and documents no longer need to be given a physical stamp. Like any other self-assessed tax, but unlike stamp duty, HM Revenue & Customs is able to enquire into an SDLT return and raise assessments to recover unpaid SDLT.

For residential house purchases, the current rates in the UK are as follows:

ConsiderationRate

up to ?125,000 - 0%

over ?125,000 to ?250,000 - 1%

over ?250,000 to ?500,000 - 3%

over ?500,000 - 4%

SDLT is not a progressive tax, but rather works on a "slab" basis, so the above percentages apply to the whole of the purchase price. For example, a house priced at ?250,000 would attract a SDLT of ?2,500, but one of ?250,001 would be liable to SDLT of ?7,500. Some areas have been designated as disadvantaged areas and have relief from SDLT on residential transactions below a certain level.

In previous years, there had been a high level of house price inflation in the UK but no change in these thresholds, leading to a substantial increase in the revenue from SDLT through fiscal drag. In 2000-01, the Inland Revenue received ?2.145bn from residential stamp duty. In 2002-03, it received ?3.59bn [1].

In 2005, the threshold for paying SDLT was raised from ?60,000 to ?120,000. In 2006, the threshold was further raised to ?125,000.

In addition to SDLT on the purchase price for land, SDLT is also charged when a lease is granted. Any premium for the grant is charged to SDLT at the same rates as for the purchase price for a sale of land; SDLT is also charged on the rent payable under the lease, at the rate of 1% of the (discounted) net present value of rent passing under the whole term of the lease. Previously, stamp duty was charged at rate of up to 24% of the annual rent. The amount of SDLT due on the grant of a typical commercial lease generally amounts to a substantial increase from the amount of stamp duty that would have been due previously.

SDLT is also charged on certain transactions involving the transfer of land involving partnerships (transfers of land from or to the partners, or changes in the partners' partnership interests where the partnership owns land).

Whether or not tax is payable Her Majesty's Customs and Revenue require a Return to be received by them within four weeks of the transaction completing failing which they have power to levy a fine on the tax payer - the fine is not for failure to pay the tax but for failure to make the return. When a return is accepted by HMRC they provide a Certificate without which it is impossible to register a change in the land ownership.

Essentially a tax imposed to "stamp" documents as registered. Quaint little thing that take about 4-6% off the value of your property.

Governments are hooked on it.

@Spinner - you're lucky you had the Boston Tea Party, or else you'd be paying it, too.

@LFC - rent! :D :D :D=))

as for what the twats at No10 are up to with this is anyones guess .

trains dont run where people want to go to and if they do there always late or cancelled

Buses are a waste of time unless your travelling to a major city

( both the above are privatised organisations now, no national rail or coach anymore

roads are that congested these days that it costs twice as much in fuel to get from a to b

they've just wacked a tax on airplanes as well ........global warming measures

( it was cheaper to fly 300 miles than for 5 people to go by car untill this tax kicked in  )

taxi's are just to damn expensive , bloody foreign cab drivers have the monopoly now and have hiked the prices up

and you cant get a fooking rikshaw for love or money round here >_<

Sorry to hear that Jack - it's very common at the moment but it doesn't make it any better does it ? :( I may be heading the same way later this year, my work is looking to sell of part of it's business and focus in other more specialist areas (not specialist as in the volvo sense of the word :D ). So we may stay working for the Co or we may all be made redundant....

never really thought of Lfc as a rent boy

You're such a liar volvo - that's the only way you think of me ! :poof:
