Ruben
I am creating a new ISO image with the new read feature of ImBurn 2.2.0, but the resulting ISO image file is not readable by WinRAR. I can take the same CD and use another ISO creation program and it works fine in WinRAR. I release this could one of 3 things: 1) A Bug in WinRAR 2) A Bug in ImgBurn 3) Not a bug but rather a different ISO format than the more common version of ISO (i.e. ISO v2.1 vs 2.3 (Made up numbers used only as a hypothetical example)). Since ISO images from other programs work in WinRAR I am thinking it is more a 2 or 3. The discontinued dvd decryptor would create files compatible with WinRAR. Since this is the first version with read function maybe it is a bug? Thanks for your help. Ruben
LIGHTNING UK!
The 'Read' feature is a sector by sector copy, I don't even examine any of the data, let alone change it. What's the exact format (sector sizes / modes etc) of the CD's you're reading? Maybe WinRar only supports Mode 1 / 2048 and you're reading other types. Ruben
Thank you for the quick response . You are absolutely right , WinRar can only read Mode1 ISO images. And I have never noticed before because various programs I used before (like Nero) would convert Mode2 discs into Mode1 discs . One question tough, how hard would it be to add an option to convert Mode2 discs to Mode1 on Read? The advantages would be a smaller file and a more comptability file. Obviously you can't do this for all CD's but for most CDs which are just data discs, it might be a good option to have. Thanks, Ruben
LIGHTNING UK!
A 1:1 copy is exactly that. If I go converting the format, the whole point of it goes out the window. I actually find it very hard to believe any decent program would read a disc to an image and change it from what it was supposed to be.

xen-uno
Since it does does do a sector by sector copy, does that include data-less sectors? A DVD+RW I used Read on created an image the size of the disk (4.7 GB), yet it only had 300 MB or so of data (to see what was up, created an image using Nero 6.6 and the resulting nrg was 330 MB in size). Is there a switch or option in IB to have it disregard data-less sectors? Fine prog BTW.
LIGHTNING UK!
For DVD+RW, by default it should read the size from the filesystem - assuming it can understand it! It's the 'DVD+RW Capacity' option in the settings on the 'Read' tab. As a formatted DVD+RW always returns its size as being the ENTIRE size of the disc, not just the data, you have to rely on the filesystem values - depending on the users settings of course. When you're in read mode, it should tell you the filesystem capacity info in the info panel on the right. i.e. PLEXTOR DVDR PX-760A 1.06 (ATA) Current Profile: DVD+RW Disc Information: Status: Complete Erasable: Yes Formatted: Yes Sessions: 1 Sectors: 2,295,104 Size: 4,700,372,992 bytes Time: 510:03:29 (MM:SS:FF) File System Information: Sectors: 2,271,266 Size: 4,651,552,768 bytes Time: 504:45:41 (MM:SS:FF) When you try to read the disc, it should only read 2271266 sectors, not 2295104 if the option is set to 'File System' rather than 'Disc'
xen-uno
If it couldn't understand it, what would happen ... error message? using the Disc size value in File System? I'm going from memory here as I'm working out of town, but the default for IB is File System it appears (which I never changed), and on this machine and my machine at home, reported size by FS and Disc have always matched on +RW's filled less than capacity. I'll do some more thorough testing this weekend with diff disks & drives and report back. Thanks UK.
LIGHTNING UK!
No, it would just use the disc size if it can't get one from any file system.
xen-uno
UK ... did test on both my DVD drives (Sony external & LG internal) & 2 disks (Sony +RW & Fuji +RW). Used an nrg of ~ 330 MB in size. LIGHTNING UK!
How are you making the nrg's in the first place? If the values aren't right in the filesystem, they'll be wrong in the program when I tried to read them. If you tell me the exact steps used to create the ISO (and all the options), I'll do the same thing here. If I build an ISO with ImgBurn and burn it to DVD+RW, when I read it back, it shows me the right size. Building the image (on-the-fly)... I 19:43:36 Operation Started! LIGHTNING UK!
I've just burn a couple of data discs in nero. One using ISO9660 and another using UDF. Both discs came out ok and the 'file system' size was recognised correctly within ImgBurn. I'm now at a loss until you come back with more info. xen-uno
OK ... that worked ... File System states correct size. Copied DVD contents to HD then used Build (ISO 9660 ... otherwise accepted all default settings), Write, then Read. Iso shrunk compared to nrg (290 MB vs 330 MB). Tested again with Build set to ISO9660+UDF ... again successful. Fuji +RW tested in LG drive ... successful. Oddly enough, the Fuji disk in the Sony drive (burnt originally by the LG) showed in Read as "Formatted: No (Started)" tho it was fully erased thus fully formatted before burn (it reads correctly as "Formatted: Yes" in LG drive which could be firmware related ... at LL10 now but LL12 is available). LIGHTNING UK!
When you build something, it will pad to the nearest 16 sectors - so it's correct for burning ot DVD+R (which always rounds to 16). Really, it's just dummy data (zeroes) shoved on the end. As such, the ever so slightly smaller FS size is actually correct.
xen-uno
I was using the DVD Copy function off Nero 6.6.1.4 and unchecking the "delete image upon completion", then canceling right after image generation and before it actually stated burning. Used all standard Nero defaults. Funny that Nero sees a fully formatted +RW as full even tho again there is only 292 MB of data. Since it's possible to Build directly off a DVD with IB, that's how I'll do it from now on and leave Nero out of the loop. Thanks again.
