Finalization, again

Hello! I am a newbee here.

I burned DVD-R with Pioneer DVR-212D.

How can I see if the disc is finalized or not ?

I tried to play this disc with a Panasonic DVD Recorder (It has Blu-Ray drive) but it rejects this disc.

PowerDVD plays it ok in Windows Vista.

Here is the log:

Firmware for your drive is way overdue for an update....1.22 from here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2369

I 21:27:17 Destination Media Type: DVD-R (Disc ID: OPTODISCR008) (Speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x)

Get yourself some decent discs such as Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden...might want to get some DVD+R's as well and booktype them for increased compatability, I suspect your Blu-Ray drive is spitting these out for compatability reasons. Your burn and verify were successful, the disc should be fine but your other drive doesn't like the outcome.

LOCOENG, chewy,

Thanks for your fast responses. My local time is GMT + 9 so I just got up and writing this post.

I will follow your instructions and I will report the results.

First I will try another media.

BTW with ImgBurn, how can I see if the disc is finalized or not ?

ImgBurn always finalises the discs - in fact, it doesn't have to do anything special for that on DVD-R media, it's done automatically by the drive.

Put one of your burnt discs in the drive and copy + paste everything from the info panel on the right (within ImgBurn).

Firmware was updated to 1.21.

I bought DVD-RW. No DVD+RW is available near here.

Movie DVD Maker was used to generate DVD Video files from MPEG file.

I will try the disc on another DVD player.

Blu-Ray Hard Disk Recorder is Panasonic DMR-BW200 and maybe only available in Japan.

Googls shows many hits but these are in Japanese language.

You can get the 1.22 firmware from here:

http://wwwbsc.pioneer.co.jp/cgi-bin/www1/d...12D_FW122EU.EXE

Yes. Thanks. I consulted with the distributor of this drive and they recommended 1.21.

Maybe they weren't aware of the 1.22 version?

I've love to hear their reasoning behind sticking with 1.21.

They never do these updates for a laugh, they fix issues. By keeping with 1.21 you're subject to 'known' bugs.

They said 1.22 has not yet thoroughly tested. In here "they" = "distributor".

They said they do not trust Pioneer all the way so they recommend to wait to use 1.22.
