rds_correia Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Hi there, Merry Xmas everyone! I've been experiencing problems with Imgburn and CDBurnerXP. Imgburn stops right at the beginning of the burning process and CDB XP stops at the end. I've tried with SPTI, Nero WNASPI32 and FrogASPI and it all turns out in coasters... Here's a picture and log from Imgburn to illustrate it. All my testing have been done with a 50x Memorex cake that seems to be from Ritek. I have successfully burn many of these disks from this same cake (30 pieces or around that). Now they're all coasters. Could be a disk problem and I will try to buy another cake from Verbatim but I'm affraid this could have something to do with my 2 years old LG burner. Some assistance would be appreciated. spinningwheel Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Hi and welcome to the forum rds. Ritek F1 is very dodgy media. Your firmware is up to date as far as I could find, so that generally leaves the media as the culprit. The fact that you have experienced some good burns is not relevent to the DVD burning situation, even a broken clock is right 2X a day.... Please try to get the Verbatim DataLifePlus or Taiyo Yuden brands that we recommend and try again. Let us know how you make out with the suggested media.
rds_correia Posted December 26, 2007 Author Posted December 26, 2007 But how can I know if the DVDs I am going to buy are TY or not, or Verbatim or not? I mean, Verbatim it's easier but TY? I have never seen any DVD branded TY. As for Verbatim, yeah, we see them here in PTG but they're really expensive and we usually turn our back on them. I'll buy a couple just for testing. Thanks for the tip. Cheers
chewy Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 I downloaded your firmware from the dangerous brothers and extracted the media table, looking at the mid codes supported it's obvious that the date on the firmware at rpc1 is wrong, no 16x media is listed I would buy a new burner, chances are that old one is worn out and 8x media is getting hard to find A117RPC1_speedsettings.txt
rds_correia Posted December 26, 2007 Author Posted December 26, 2007 What?? Does that mean that these Memorex that I bought are 16x only! meaning that they won't burn at speeds lower than 16x? I hope I'm misunderstanding your point chewy . Cheers
chewy Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 well your firmware is using a generic write strategy to burn the disks with, if it was working before it should still work, so chances are your burner is going out, of course when it worked before it may have just barely worked rather than waste too much more time on such an old burner I would buy a new one, after having to replace over 100 dvd's that I burned with old burners and second class media, I am biased against them, a lot were memorex and only a couple of years old, if that My 16x LG burner was a later model(4163B) than yours and it's almost 2 1/2 years old here in PTG PTG Pietersburg, South Africa ??? ty media there might be that's branded and expensive I am sure
dontasciime Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 you may like the updated mcse MediaCodeSpeedEdit V1.1.0.12 http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/MCSE/MediaCodeSpeedEdit.zip or is it like my comps you can never find it on hard drives apart from some older version
rds_correia Posted December 27, 2007 Author Posted December 27, 2007 Hi guys, Problem solved with a new 50x cake of DVD-R Verbatim 1x-16x (TY dye/ink). They're burning at ~8x which is my dvd burner max speed. Thank you all for your help. Merry Xmas and happy new year. Cheers
spinningwheel Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Glad you got the whole thing sorted out rds_. Post back if you run into problems again.
