greyowl Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 I know that ImgBurn is the best burner. I am wondering what would be the second best burner for those job that ImgBurn cannot do eg multisession, audio, boot CD, etc. Or jobs that I cannot figure out on ImgBurn. I have available to me a full version of Nero 6.6. This is the older vision before the bloat. I think it is about a 30-40 mb installation. I have noticed that many people mention using Nero until new features are availble for ImgBurn. Is Nero considered the second best in the industry? or is there another app that is better. I am running W2K and only have a CD Burner so only burn CDs. Thoughts and advise will be appreciated
JasonFriday13 Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 Well, I only have Nero installed because I use the Cover Designer with my new lightscribe drive (LG GSA H55L). For burning audio cds, you could use Burrrn. You could also use Exact Audio Copy. I don't use multi-session discs myself, but nero is a good (current) choice for that. ImgBurn can read and burn bootable cds. In build mode, click the Advanced tab, then Bootable Disc. btw, my version of nero is 6.6.0.16.
mmalves Posted February 2, 2008 Posted February 2, 2008 The latest version from the 6 series is 6.6.1.15d
greyowl Posted February 4, 2008 Author Posted February 4, 2008 to MMalves: Thanks for the link to the Nero 6 latest version. Do I need Nero on the computer first and then update with this version, or can i just clean install this version and put in my registration number?
mmalves Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Do I need Nero on the computer first and then update with this version, or can i just clean install this version and put in my registration number? It supports both upgrading an existing version and also clean install with a serial number
chewy Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 6.6.0.18 was the latest version before they started that damn ultracache http://oldapps.com/nero.htm
greyowl Posted February 4, 2008 Author Posted February 4, 2008 6.6.0.18 was the latest version before they started that damn ultracache http://oldapps.com/nero.htm Is the ultracache a problem? Is v. 6.6.0.18 a better version? more stable and effective and without bloat? Which version is preferred:

chewy Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 afaik it's a good way to make a coaster if you multitask right at the beginning of a burn nero grabs a 200 megs of ram just in case you need it and then releases excess later at an 8x dvd burn you are only writting at 11 MB/s there are a few nero geeks left over at cdfreaks
greyowl Posted February 4, 2008 Author Posted February 4, 2008 I don't miss Nero in the slightest. Do you use any other burning software aside from ImgBurn, eg for multisession work?
LOCOENG Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 I don't do multisession discs, so no need for any other app for burning other than Imgburn.

dontasciime Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 depends on your drive as support for your model may have been added with later version of nero
greyowl Posted February 6, 2008 Author Posted February 6, 2008 depends on your drive as support for your model may have been added with later version of nero I have tried both of these versions and they both work on my drive. Should I avoid the one that has the heavy memory cache?
dontasciime Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Thats up to you and how much memory you have in your system and if you like to faff on whilst burning or you just burn and go
chewy Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 yes I have worked long and hard learning how to break stuff donta
dontasciime Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I've never had a problem txing files across a network and burning using ultracache enabled version of nero but advisable to just leave comp alone whilst burning no matter which writing software your using.
jmet Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Personally I like to do some CPU intensive video conversion whilst burning....oh the suspense and anticipation you get is overwhelming!
JasonFriday13 Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I burned my backup disc while running spybot. Still burned and verified correctly . (With ImgBurn of course!)
SerpentKing Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 the only other burning app i use is EAC and thats for audio cds...the only bad thing about it...is that it doesnt support non normal characters in the cue sheet...so i gotta edit it before i can burn the audio cd
