Do I just need to get new DVP?

Hi there

This has now become an unhealthy obsession............

I originally burnt with Windows DVD Maker but 'disk error' on my DVP ( Philips dvp3055 ) and after a bit of research thought this was because discs are only closed, not finalized. Tried Nero - no good. After looking into finalizing Img Burn recommended by lots of folk. Converted avi file using DVD flick and then burnt with ImgBurn - DVP still doesn't like it. The last burn plays fine on PC ( I used TDK discs which are in top bracket of media in the guide linked somewhere else on here ). I know my DVP plays dvd-r disks burnt off a Mac ( It does accept dvd+r according to manual ). Change Media to -r? Any Ideas?

My gf is beginning to worry about me. She has never known me to be so determined and bloody-minded about anything.

I NEED HELP

Post a log for better help please.

Additionally, the TDK's are actually not great by any means but some people don't have any problems with them. Most here prefer Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden as do I. Have you lent out any that you've burned for others to try on their standalone units?

Yep

They play fine on another at least 2 other DVPs ( one of which about 5 years old ) and on PS2

Just not on your Philips dvp3055 which appears to be a little picky. Post your log and we might be able to get you a firmware update or somthing else that might help with compatability.

Would love to.

Couple of questions........

What is a log and how do I post it.

Open Imgburn and press Ctrl +L to open the log window. You can copy and paste information after a burn from that window into this forum/thread. If you don't have anything to burn search for Imgburn.log and post the top log which should be the most recent or they can be found in C:\Documents and Settings\*user name*\Application Data\ImgBurn

EDIT:

This is the top of the log:

If you are going to burn those DVD files as a compliant DVD to be played on your player - this is your problem:

E 13:28:31 Fix VTS Sectors Failed! - Reason: Could not find VIDEO_TS.IFO

That file triggers the player to start the play - so without that one - no go.

Yes, the latest log looks ok.

Can you play that DVD in your computer?

Never tried DVD Flick before - so I tried it and it seems that the latest version just tried to burn the created stuff to ImgBurn by itself. :)

Suggest that you try to play the burned DVD in another stand alone player. It could be that the player is tricky with burned discs.

Tried to find some reviews about your player - there are two models that fit your description:

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers?DVDnam...ame&hits=50

(Scroll down a bit on that page to find the two models)

In the preferences in DVD Flick I checkmarked the option "Create ISO" and that seems to trigger the burning with ImgBurn. (I guess you need to have ISO files associated with ImgBurn in the preferences of ImgBurn).

Tried to search for firmware for your burner. It seems it's installed in a Compaq or Dell computer. I couldn't find any firmware for that burner. If it's a Compaq/Dell computer - try to see if you have any luck with using their support pages for your specific model of computer.

Might be worth your time to visit CDFreaks.com and see if Liggy and Dee would be able to work up a bitsetting firmware for your drive...I think that would do the trick TBH.

@Cynthia

Do you use the NEC tab to set the booktype with your Optiarc drive and do the new drives require modified firmware like the good old NEC models?
