DougB Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 (edited) I always get miscompares with DL disks and every file seems to bring them about also. (1) No other burning software is installed on the machine. (2) All of the startup items are disabled by default except for the firewall and the UPS (3) Running memtest for 48 hours found nothing (4) Using a clean formatted copy of WinXP Pro yields same thing. (5) No problems with single layer just DL. (6) Is my burner going? (7) Is this esentially a coaster or will it play (Asking cause I don't have a DL player here at the moment)? WinXP Pro SP 2 I 14:14:08 ImgBurn Version 2.4.0.0 started! LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Verify the disc again manually in Verify mode and see if it still errors out in the same places and with the exact same miscompare byte data. Any chance in you trying that drive in another machine? Or trying another drive in yours? They're only about
DougB Posted March 29, 2008 Author Posted March 29, 2008 Fortanently, the old ancient stand alone DOES indeed play DL's . I had three discs, two with miscompares and the other without one. They all played fine. What causes a miscompare, or more importantly what is the reason for them? Thank you for all you're help LUK. Have a good week-end, Doug
LIGHTNING UK! Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 It's where the info on the disc doesn't match the source image file. That *might* not prevent a video disc from playing but you sure as hell don't want one on a data disc as it basically means the disc is corrupt.
blutach Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 The fact that errors are all in bit 2 makes me suspicious about memory. I know you ran your memtest for 2 days, but something's up. How's your temps? Cleaned the dust out recently? Regards
dontasciime Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 try memtest again with advanced test clean your lens take 1 stick of memory out and try again
DougB Posted April 1, 2008 Author Posted April 1, 2008 How do you do advanced test is it under configuration? I have version 3.4a I am running each 10 tests 50 times each. What's the best way to clean the lens rubbing alcohol & Q tips? (I don't have a lint free rag)
dontasciime Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 CD lens cleaner take out some memory and try verify again then swap mem over and advanced test under memtest + been a while since i needed to run memtest + so your guess as good as mine (probs where you think it is)
