Best method for Backup

What is the best method of backing up several files over several CDs?

1) Convert all into a 7z or zip file split into pieces of 700MB and copy each to a CD? But if the first or last CD gets corrupted, the entire set becomes useless.

2) Use ImgBurn to create an image file split into pieces of 700MB and copy each to CD? I don't know if it's possible to retrieve any file from a single CD.

3) Use specialised backup software? (I have not tried this, any recommendations?).

4) Use a file manager like FreeCommander to split the files into batches of about 700MB and copy each to CD? The good thing about this method is that the files are independently retrievable, but a lot of work is involved.

Any other suggestions?

The files are meant for long term backup over several years.

Welcome to ImgBurn Forum.

Get an external hard drive and keep it somewhere safe.

ImgBurn can not span discs. If you want to backup to optical media, find a specialised backup software - there's lots around.

  • 1 month later...

I use ntbackup to pack everything together then use 7z to compress and split up to 750MB pieces then use use imgburn. All these software are scriptable so it's great. What I am looking at this forum for a way to turn off update check. My backup was stopped because imgburn looked and found new update. I have set it to never but it revert back to weekly.

Attached is my set of scripts to do an incremental backup daily and normal weekly.

If you set it to never then that's what it'll stay on - unless something else messes with your settings.

Lots of programs call on ImgBurn for burning so it's not unheard of.

Going between different versions of the program can also make it happen - like if one doesn't support all the values another one does it'll use the default value.

Thanks, I found the answer.

Use /settings to generate the ini file then use the ini file that has EVENTS_CheckForProgramUpdate=0.
