Claes Posted August 7, 2008 Share Posted August 7, 2008 I run Windows Vista Business on an SONY Vaio laptop with built in DVD/CD reader/writer. I recently installed Imgburn 2.4.2.0. First I used it to burn a dual layer DVD, it worked great without problems! :-) Now, one week later I got problems, burning freezes Windows Vista. I tried to burn a Dual Layer DVD and suddenly after approx 30-70% Vista Frooze. Only on/off button could reboot my laptop. I have now tried to burn CD and now it freezes Vista almost directly when it starts to burn. The following happens: I start IMGBurn, no problem. CD/DVD drive is detected, no problem. I choose the ISO file to burn, no problem. I insert a blank CD, imgburn detects it, no problem. I start to burn and IMG starts to "filling buffer". When buffer is 98% I hear the CD/DVD drive spin up and now Vista freezes! Probably this is something in my hardware or Windows vista but I have not done anything lately with my laptop. Anyone that have a clue what it could be or if I could try some other settings? Should I try to reset DMA but the imgburn FAQ stated this for XP, not Vista? Below is a sample from the latest log (unfortunatly imgburn seems to chas the log in memory and dont write it to disk so I never get everything in the log...). Debug is enabled so the log is long... mmalves Posted August 7, 2008 Share Posted August 7, 2008 Ensure you have the latest storage drivers for your chipset installed (you can use SIW and HWiNFO32 to find out which one you have). LIGHTNING UK! Posted August 7, 2008 Share Posted August 7, 2008 Don't enable debug mode until you're at the point (well, just before) where you know it's going to freeze. I have now tried the RegEdit fix for Matshita CD/DVD (Removing upperfilter and lowerfilter) as described on several places (example: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben...p;x=12&y=13 ) Tried to burm a CD from an IMAGE but Vista frooze again, this time after 1:21. On the screens I have: Time elapsed: 1:21 Complete: 27% Buffer: 100% Device buffer: 100% In the bottom where info is displayed it says: Writing sectors In the log window the last lines are: Writing LeadIn... Writing session 1 of 1... (1 Track, LBA: 0-322876) Writing Track 1 of 1... (MODE1/2048, LBA: 0-322876) The same time Vista frooze I tried to Resize the log window and had just clicked the lower right corner to resize but I think this is just a coincidence (but you never know...). No other applications were running. Could this be some software conflict? For example Antivirus (I use Trend-Micro Officescan) or maybe some other software wanting to access the CD-drive when it is in use by IMGBURN?
