Stand alone exe files.

Here is what I would like to see as I have absolutely no idea how to create it myself.

 

A very small simple program. When started, you select the disc you want to use from you drive. (cd, dvd, blu-ray, etc.)

 

Then the program is run. You select what you want to name the file and where you want to save it. The program creates another stand alone executable file that can be run from any computer. It then copies your disc (cd, dvd, blu-ray, etc.) 1:1, sector by sector, and stores the data within the executable file. When finished copying the disc, the program congratulates you on your success in copying the disc and creating the exe file, then closes.

 

Now you have a stand-alone application that can be run from any computer without any installed applications. When run, a small window pops up with two options. The first is to duplicate the disc, and the second is to run the disc. I know you dont do the whole mounting image thing but i thought i would just throw it in there.

 

When you click Duplicate, you can burn an exact copy of the original disc for backup purposes directly from the exe file. And if you select the Run button, the program will mount to either a virtual drive it creates, or trick the computer into thinking the disc is actually in the real disc drive. (I believe creating virtual drives require a restart but I am not sure about this, so maybe instead of restarting, you could just trick the computer to thinking the disc is in the already available disc drive. Of course it will have to be empty though)

 

The program should make sure the disc is copied perfectly and possible show you any errors. Possibly include a few options before making the exe file.

 

This would be perfect for backing up cds, dvds, etc. They could be very quickly reproduced or ran. Just thought i would post this to see what others thought.

Not gunna work if the disc is full or if you actually want your DVD/CD to play on a player!

 

Instead, just copy the disk and use ImgBurn in portable mode (if you don't wanna install it on another PC).

What do you mean?

 

Basically, what im saying is, instead of creating an iso file or img file or whatever else file imgburn can create, it will create an exe file. In this exe file will be all data required to reproduce the original disc. The program can run by itself to reproduce the disc from the hard drive.

 

The run part will run the disc by double clicking on the exe file. It will automatically create a virtual drive where the disc will appear to be inserted. You will be able to play/rip a cd, watch a dvd, etc. like you could if the original disc was in the computer.

 

Does that make sense? It would have to be a completly different program than imgBurn but would use some similar code.

Why bother? Just put a copied disc in with whatever media is on it (audio, video whatever) and open it in your favourite software media player. No need to extract from an archive (or make one in the first place), create a virtual drive, etc etc.

 

There are a plethora of media players out there and some even perform pretty well.

 

Does that make sense?

No. You are inventing complexity, where none needs to be.
