Cynthia
Hi and welcome to the forum, macman121! If it's a Dell computer, there is a later firmware for that burner to install. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/...p;fileid=266959 I 10:55:10 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: RICOHJPN-D01-67) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x) Try to use 2.4x as the write speed as that is the slowest speed your writer supports with that brand of media. I 10:55:10 Write Type: Incremental Not sure why you changed the default setting.

And I didn't know I changed that Incremental setting... How do I change it back?! Many thanks!
Cynthia
Main Menu -> Settings -> the tab 'Write' -> Write Type -> Change it to DAO/SAO It will never write in 1x speed as the lowest speed supported by your combination of media and firmware/writer will write it in 2.4x. The other available speed option is 4x.
macman121
Will try this now... and with a different game file... Thanks By the way, does verifying do anything?
Cynthia
The verify option tells you if the burned disc is 100% the same as your original file. It will also tell you if it has problems reading the disc. So have it enabled, atleast until you know for sure that your can burn with those discs. Cynthia
Looks as your writer doesn't support the media very well. You could try with another brand as described in this thread. http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=8000
macman121
Would it burn on a Sony Vaio FE31H with a PIONEER dvr-k16m or a Toshiba Satellite Pro with Matshita DVD-RAM UJ850S... I'm tempted to try the Pioneer because they make good quality drives... what do you think? THANKS!
Cynthia
Out of those two writers I would do the same.
macman121
Hi, I am back... I have bought a new DVD Burner as neither of the other two worked... my new burner is the Pioneer 116D. I am getting the same errors. The log is here! I 09:40:25 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 09:40:25 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 3) I 09:40:25 Total Physical Memory: 522,332 KB - Available: 221,280 KB W 09:40:25 Drive F:\ (FAT32) does not support single files > 4 GB in size. Cynthia
The write error happens late at the first layer and the speed should have been much higher at that point as you selected 4x as the write speed. I 10:10:58 Average Write Rate: 1,351 KB/s (1.0x) - Maximum Write Rate: 1,562 KB/s (1.1x) Might be that you should enable DMA. http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?s=&...dpost&p=967 You have the slave/master setting right at the back of the burner? macman121
Okay, I am going to try burning at 4x (that's recommended by quite a few) and I will enable DMA. I haven't (knowingly) set up any master/slave system!
Cynthia
As I have the same burner except it's the SATA model, I burned some Aone plus discs with the same media code as you have. The older models 115/215 works ok with this media code, but the 116/216 seems to be the pure joke with this media code. Hopefully there will be a new firmware version in the future that addresses the issue. I didn't get any write or verify errors during the burn with ImgBurn. 2.4x write speed 4x write speed 8x write speed
Cynthia
This is what you get if you burn with 8x rated Verbatims from Singapore. Used write speed is 2.4x.
macman121
I had one successful burn of NFS! Then I tried another game and got the same error as I have been having... The NFS burned at 1x even though I selected AUTO (MAX) Did you go and read the link i posted in reply #13 of this thread ? http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=8000 if you did, why are you STILL trying to make those Riteks work ? You had 1 successful burn due to the inconsistency of the media .................... in other words you finally found a decent one that worked amongst the pack/spindle. UNTIL you get stable media, whatever you do is pissing against the wind . You HAVE to eliminate the variables first
mmalves
Your drive is still using PIO mode. Follow the DMA post of the FAQ to correct it.
macman121
Thanks mmalves, I have tried following the tutorial but nothing seems to be happening. I don't mind burning at 1x if I get them working! I now have my second successful burn... and, as volvofl10 said, I know it's because of the crappy media BUT if I have 20 of them lying around I am going to use those rather than buy a load of Verbatims! I will run out of these and them go get myself some Verbs! In the mean time, my successful Burnout Log looks like this: I 08:36:18 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! spinningwheel
macman; Seriously, get rid of those discs and get some good ones. The reason I am saying this is because 1 good burn out of 3 or 4 makes the discs you are using the most expensive in the world, and the errors thrown by the media may be masking other problems that are there and we can't see them due to the media messing with everything.. Cynthia
EDIT: I have noticed that the write speeds vary from disk to disk! The successful one offers more write speeds, could this be a way to tell the useless ones from the ones that will work? Thanks! Yes. It could be that the quality in the box is very up and down and the ones that are more up, show all the available write speeds. The question is just how well they burned of those that can pass the write stage as you don't verify them. macman121
I'm on Amazon now ;-) Cynthia: What are the chances of a firmware update? This problem seems to have been around for a while!! http://club.cdfreaks.com/1278831-post20.html Cheers! EDIT: lol... you posted while I was typing! I will get the file asap Edited February 22, 2009 by macman121
Cynthia
I'm sure they will release more firmware updates in the future. No idea when. It's just odd that they managed to break the good results with the earlier 115/215 models for media like the one you are struggling with. It's seems to like Ritek DL media better, if you are hunting for cheap media. Verbatims do however work best. http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?s=&...ost&p=87250
macman121
Here's the file! I will try a few different things... I'm not bothered about the laser problems for the near future as I plan to have this console for infrequent use and get a newer falcon console for using often (for which I will use verbs). It was to big to be added by itself so I have zipped it up.
