Failed to Read Sectors - L-EC Uncorrectable Error (Read)

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to get an image file from 2 DVDs I made a year ago, although I've lost the ISOs for them. I have 3 copies of each of the DVDs, however none of them are being successfully read by ImgBurn.

The two types of DVDs (DVD 1 and DVD2) are stopping at 11% and 5% respectively while trying to get a disk image from them. I've tried 4x (automatic speed) down to 2x and 1x read speed, although they stop at the same percentage. However, the discs themselves can be played fully and successfully by my laptop and other devices.

Here is the log:

If the disc is unreadable, it's unreadable. Try them in other drives too, you may find one that's a better reader than the one you used there.

Along with trying other drives, you might get free IsoPuzzle which might be able to recover one or more of your DVDs. It keeps trying and it will even allow you to move the disc(s) from one drive to another until you get a complete copy.

For irreplaceable stuff like family videos I now use M-Disc instead of ink dye writeable media. If they verify perfectly when written, they should last for 1,000 years.
