2.0.0 Keeps Emptying Buffers

Imperial Zeppelin

Recommended Posts

Loaded 2.0.0 the other day and while having two windows open going for two ISO burns I noticed how terribly slow things were progressing. The buffers would fill, empty and then burning would slow down to a trickle while the buffers were being refilled.

I uninstalled 2.0 and reinstalled the last version of 1 with no hardware/firmware/system changes and the burns proceeded at a normal, pre2.0 pace with full beffers.

Am I the only one seeing this?

Anyone have a clue as to what's going on?

Thanks,

Zep

If the buffers get too low, the buffer recovery stuff kicks in.

When that happens, the program basically pauses until the buffers have filled up again and waits until hdd activity reaches a set level before burning continues.

Take a look in the log and see if you can see what I've described above actually happening.

I've never had a need to burn from 2 instances of the program at the same time so it's not something I'd test. If I want multiple burns I simply queue them up and share between drives.

If buffer recovery is causing issues with the way you like to work, simply disable it in the settings.

How fast where you burning and where both burns on the same drive? You generally can burn 2 DVDR @ 4x on the same drive because your drive's read speed can keep up with your 2 burners. However, if your burning anything over 4x on the SAME drive then you'll encouter buffer problems because your drive cannot keep up with the data demand from 2 burners.

If you want to burn 2 instances and sometimes 3 (like I do) you have to burn from two seperate drives (partition will not work cuz it's still the same drive) OR burn from a RAID0 drive. I have absolutely no problem burning two ISOs on my 74GB Raptors in RAID0 @ 18x (using two PX-760A), however on my 500GB Hitachi drive, the buffers will keep emptying and filling when I try to burn 2 ISO simply because the drive cannot keep up.

the burners should be on separate channels too preferably

note the times on the next 2 logs, both done simultaneously, no messages about waiting for buffers
