pstein Posted November 22, 2013 Share Posted November 22, 2013 (edited) Is there a way to find out the file system (ISO9960, Joliet, UDF, or combination of them) which was used when a DVD/BlueRay was originally burned? Even more: Can I find out the UDF version (if UDF was used)? Is it true that the file system support is a matter of the operating system and NOT of the hardware? So lets say all Windows 7 systems can (with burner hardware from the last 5 Years) read UDF v2.60 medias? Correct? I want to use UDF v2.60 for data file backups. Any disadvantages? LIGHTNING UK! Posted November 22, 2013 Share Posted November 22, 2013 Put the disc in the drive and switch to Read mode. It'll list all of that info in the 'Source' box. Correct, file system support is a software thing and nothing to do with the hardware. 2.50 and 2.60 take mirror copies of certain file system descriptors. They don't take up much space, but if you're a couple of sectors over the disc capacity, switching to 2.01 or below might allow it to fit. 2.50 and 2.60 also can't be read by XP or earlier OS's without the aid of a 3rd party driver.
