Won't Complete Burn

Recommended Posts

I have had a lot of success burning dvd's with IMG. I have just tried twice and got error messages twice after about 15% of burning the disc. I even updated to the latest version on the second try. The error message I got was, I/O ERROR, Device: [1:00] Philips DVD+RW SDVD8820 AD18 (D:) (ATA), ScsiStatus: 0x02, Interpretation: Check Condition, CDB: 2A 00 00 05 7B 40 00 00 20 00, Interpretation: Write (10) - Sectors: 359232 - 359263, Sense Area: 71 00 03 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 0C 00 00 00 00, Interpretation: Write Error. Just wondering if anyone has any answers or suggestions.

Why do people post for help but don't come back to follow their post up

It's because when we tell them to post a log, change media, upgrade firmware and RTFG they become all frustrated and really don't want to be told that they assed the process up by not reading the threads, using the search function or taking the time to learn the process in the first place. It's easier for us to use the IB crystal ball method and play 20 questions with them than it is for them to do what we ask. :whistling:

I to, am getting this message. Different of course because of different computers. What is making it do this? I've done loads of dvds without a problem. Now I am lucky if I get one at all. Mine usually gives the message about 8 to 9%. It'll go through the first round but the second is when I get this message. I also upgraded the latest version. Any help?

will you burn something at 8X instead of max to see what happens ,your max speed was 15x+ but quality really drops after 12X you could try a change of media Verbatim aor Taiyo Yudens preferred

check the FAQ section on the "threshold warning "

PS post as much as you like its not a problem, thats what this forum is about trying to get some help and answers

W 23:31:15 AnyDVD can interfere with ImgBurn's ability to verify accurately, please ensure it's disabled

This is from your log ( yes its a proper log  ), anydvd has been known to create problems disable it when you're burning it especially affects verifys

I just had everything I wanted to say and it disappeared. Wow..lol. I am not the great at understanding somethings, so please bare with me...lol. About changing the 4x..etc. I don't get or dunno how to I shall say. As for anydvd, I only use it to help with some dvds that are a pain in the bum to get. So if I disable it while burning, could it help? Thanks for everything so far...lol. :D Is new to the whole burning thing.

Your drive seems to have reset itself - that's not a good thing!

Previously, your errors were coming from the 'Verify' stage.

That is to say, the drive burnt the disc but them couldn't read it back - meaning it had produced a bad burn.

You tend to get that on discs the drive doesn't like or just on discs that are useless anyway.

Try and find some Verbatim (MCC dye) or Taiyo Yuden discs. They're much better quality than the ones you're currently using (RICOHJPN-R03-04).

Sorry for not responding earlier, haven't had the chance. But it sounds as if Damon is having the exact same problem. I have been using the Verbatim disks solely to burn DVD's. I am at work so i can not copy the log to send, I see what you mean now. I was just wondering if might have something to do with the drive itself or just a program issue, i just purchased this drive from Dell a few months back and has done good so far. I was going to check and see if there where any issues with burning CD's, not sure if one has anything to do with the other.

99.99% of the time, an I/O Error is a drive / media / firmware issue. The drive reports the errors, ImgBurn simply displays them.

Thanks for the help everyone. I just don't understand why the drive would do that after burning loads of dvds on the discs I am using now. Mine are Memorex DVD+R RW. After burning 30 movies or so, do you still think it's the brand of discs? My burner had also burned DVD- too. So in a way, I dunno if it perfers + or - lol. Sounds like the drive has a mind of it's own. Scary thought...lol. Oh and when it would burn a movie, it would burn one and then the next one would fail. It would repeat that same cycle occasionally.

These things deteriorate over time... nothing lasts forever!

Resetting DMA (as per the FAQ) can help out in certain situations. Updating the firmware, resetting DMA and using decent media are the 3 easy things to do when stuff starts going wrong. If you do those and it still doesn't work, you need to start looking at general hardware problems.

I surely hope it isn't going on me now. I just bought this comp and only been burning this month and never before. I will try those suggestions, if I know how to...lol. Then I will let you know. Thanks Lightning!

I have just got the chance to check the log for both errors writing, one is before the update the other is after. Not sure if there is anything there or not that can indentify the problem.

The only problems are these:

W 22:03:49 Failed to Write Sectors 216864 - 216895 - Write Error

W 09:59:59 Failed to Write Sectors 224448 - 224479 - Write Error

There's just something the drive doesn't like about the discs.

Get another spindle of Verbatims (maybe the +R type this time) or start thinking about getting a new drive.
