Keep getting "Invalid address for write" with Verbatim

Hello all,

 

I wasted 4 DVD's already and I keep getting these messages.

 

Here's what happened:

I use Verbatim 16X DVD-R and try to burn ISO's with a new Plextor PX-810SA on Windows Vista:

 

1st try: Burned at 4x, no problem at all. Works flawlessly

2nd try: Tried to burn different ISO at 4x, ""Invalid address for write".

3rd try: Tried to burn another different ISO at 4x, "Invalid address for write".

4th try: Tried to burn the ISO from my 2nd try at 2x. 1st Test write fails, second test worked, actually burning worked. CD works flawlessly.

5th try: Tried to burn the ISO from my 3rd try at 2x. 1st Test failed, second test worked, actual burning FAILS. "Invalid address for write".

 

Uninstalled IMGburn, turned off everything on my computer that is not needed to run windows. Installed IMGburn again:

6th try: Tried to burn the ISO from my 3rd try at 4x. Test completed, actual burning fails. "Invalid address for write".

 

I don't have a log atm, I'll save it when I'll try it again.

 

Please help me, any suggestions are much appreciated!

rammoth, Have you checked for firmware updates for your burner and also make sure you leave imgburn presets on default and when burning leave burn speed on auto. Those Verbs should burn fine at 8X and above. :) And make sure your using the most current version of Imgburn as well. :) Your logs are saved by default. Help > Imgburn logs.

Hello kevdriver, thanks for your reply!

 

I checked to see if there were any firmware updates available but there weren't, probably cause it's a recent addition to the Plextor burners. I haven't changed anything in the IMGburn setup and stuff like that, so everything should be as default as could be.

I changed the speed to 4x cause I'm burning Wii ISO's and I've been told repeatedly on every forum that 4x is the way to go for Wii ISO's, cause the Wii might have trouble reading them otherwise at the cost of it's laser.

 

Also I have downloaded the most recent IMGburn straight from the IMGburn.com website.

 

I found the logs and they're as following (I left some logs out, otherwise this would get even longer):

What controller is your drive connected to? (which motherboard do you have or which chipset does it use?)

 

Have you tried burning at 8x or 12x? Lower speeds doesn't always mean better burns - drives are geared for speed these days and 'faster' might work when 'slower' does not.

 

Also, that's a rebadged Pioneer 212. They have issues with MCC 03RG20 media and only the 1.22 firmware fixes that (or so I believe).

The motherboard I use is ASUS P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP and the chipset it uses is: Intel P35 / ICH9R with Intel Fast Memory Acces Technology.

I tried google and the plextor site to find any firmware for my burner, but haven't been able to find any.

 

I haven't tried burning it at a higher speed yet. Will do that next and see what happens.

Ah ok, you've got it connected to the ICH9R controller by the looks of it - rather than the jmicron one or whatever else they also implement.

 

I avoided using RAID (or AHCI) on my P35 based board because drives seem to prefer just being on a normal (S)ATA controller.

 

Since you're using AHCI, make sure you keep your motherboard bios and the Intel Matrix driver up-to-date.

As far as I know, the burner is just on SATA, no RAID or AHCI. My motherboard and chipset are all up-to-date.

Everest Home Edition does show my burner in the ASPI tab. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

 

 

I just tried burning it at 8x, followed by AUTO, but both tries failed. Here are the logs:

You've got an 'Intel Raid 0 Volume' listed in your screenshot, so I can only assume it's NOT in the standard (S)ATA mode.

 

The drive would also probably be listed as (ATA) rather than (ATAPI)... but I couldn't be 100% sure on that.

 

btw, 'AUTO' write speed doesn't mean anything if you've not configured the 'Automatic Write Speed' settings - look in the Guides forum.

The RAID volume is just my hard disk.

 

I just tried to write it again on AUTO, this time it worked, but it failed at verifying. However, the disc does seem to work, but it makes more noise than usual when reading it.

 

After I tried it again, this time on 4X, but I got the same error as always. Made a screenshot of it:

I will check out the guide now. And as always, thank you so much for all the help you're giving me.

 

Here is the log of the completed disc with failed verifying. I deleted a huge part of this, because I kept the enter button pressed to keep it going, but you'll get the drift. The errors just kept on going one after another from 19:08:51 to 19:10:15 which is the part I deleted in this log.

Just an update in addition to my former post.

 

I've doublechecked the firmware of my motherboard and chipset once again with the ones available on the ASUS website and they're all updated to the latest version, as is my BIOS. Unless there is some hidden firmware update for my burner somewhere on the web, this one should have the latest drivers/firmware as well.

 

I followed the guide for configuring the AUTO speed and set it at 8x. Tried another test burn, but again the same result, "Invalid Address for Write" :(

lol I know the RAID volume is your hard disc, but in the MB BIOS, you either have 'ATA', 'RAID' or 'AHCI' - and that's for the entire controller (i.e. all 6 ports).

 

You can't run a RAID volume if you're in ATA mode, hence you can't be in it.

 

Don't ever go by the ASUS site for Intel drivers, get them direct from Intel.

As mentioned earlier, only the 1.22 Pioneer firmware supported that media dye properly (even then it's not perfect!) so if Plextor's 1.00 firmware isn't based on that, you need to be using different media.

You are indeed right. They did have a more recent update on the intel website.

 

Updated both and tried it again.

 

So far I did 2 test burns and one actual burn. All without any errors. I'll keep you updated if anything goes wrong again, but for now I just wish to thank you so much for your help and time!

 

No wonder everyone directed me to IMGburn over Nero ;P
