Having trouble burning with ImgBurn, Nero...You name it

I've been making back-up copies of my dvds and all of a sudden I've run into trouble. I been using Memorex DVD+R with no problems. I've used DVD Shrink or sometimes DVDFab and haven't had any problems till now. Nero wouldn't burn them so I switched to DVD Decrypter. It worked, but the dvd played really choppy and the menues didn't work right. So then I tried ImgBurn and it still failed. The Log reads:

I'm using a

HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4166B

I updated my firmware with the latest update from Compaq because I thought it might solve the problem, but no such luck. Like I said before, I've used these disks with no problem before and I've gone through quite a few trying to figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try lowering your speed to 8X see what happens.

I've included an attached file that shows the pop up by ImgBurn. I don't know if that will help. Also I've tried burning at 1X with Nero and it still messes up. Is my burner (hardware) messed up maybe?

It looks as though that your drive/firmware doesn't fully support that media.

Your first log is showing supported speeds of 4, 8, 12, 16 yet you second log is only showing supported speeds of only 4X.

I searched for your drive on rpc1 to look for a firmware update but couldn't find it, try with some different media, see if that works.

I'm sure the burner *should* support that media, so basically it's a case of duff discs or your drive has had it.

If there's a firmware update available, make sure you do that before doing anything else... then try again obviously!

Thanks you guys are a great help. I just updated my firmware to its latest version found at Compaq so I'm guessing my drive may be shot. Anyway, thanks for the help!

:D Just want to say thanks again. I switched out the drives with one of my friends burners and everything worked great. I can't believe I'm actually happy I have to replace the drive :/ . At least I now know what was wrong and don't have to waste any more disks. Thanks again.

That's a funny firmware ID for an LG drive. Is it the original or did you get it somewhere?
