googlemania Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I've used imgburn a couple of times to burn things and it worked perfectly every time. Until a few days ago when i tried to burn and the bottom left hand corner said "No Writers Detected!" This is the log i got. I 17:28:27 ImgBurn Version 2.4.2.0 started! I 17:28:27 Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (6.0, Build 6000) I 17:28:27 Total Physical Memory: 2,029,440 KB - Available: 1,244,232 KB I 17:28:27 Initialising SPTI... I 17:28:27 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... E 17:28:30 CreateFile Failed! - Device: '\\.\CdRom0' (E:) E 17:28:30 Reason: The maximum number of secrets that may be stored in a single system has been exceeded. W 17:28:30 Errors were encountered when trying to access a drive. W 17:28:30 This drive will not be visible in the program. W 17:28:30 No devices detected! Also i tried to uninstall my drive which is PBDS DVD+-RW DH-16W1S SCSI CdRom Device. But that didn't help any.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 You've got a virus. Clear it off with this (it's free): http://www.freedrweb.com/cureit/ Then update ImgBurn and update to Vista SP1 too.
googlemania Posted May 17, 2009 Author Posted May 17, 2009 You've got a virus. Clear it off with this (it's free): http://www.freedrweb.com/cureit/ Then update ImgBurn and update to Vista SP1 too. how can you tell?
googlemania Posted May 17, 2009 Author Posted May 17, 2009 okay so i got the virus scan going right now is there a certain way to get rid of the viruses (so far it has 3). I'm not a big computer guy and don't really now much about this stuff.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I assume you wait for it to finish scanning and then either tell it to remove them or it will have done so along the way. So basically, it should be pretty obvious once it gets to the end.
googlemania Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 IT WORKED!!!!!! Thanks a million to all that helped me.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Glad to hear it. Now watch what you download / install on your machine!
artemisgone Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I've actually ran into the same exact problem today... I did everything you instructed to do and I still get the same error in img burn. I'm so frustrated because I seriously didn't download or install anything for quite a while, and certainly not today. I think my brother has some explaining to do
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 What problem do you have exactly? 'No Writers Detected' or 'The maximum number of secrets that may be stored in a single system has been exceeded.' The 2nd causes the 1st but the 1st can happen for several reasons.
artemisgone Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I'm getting the "maximum number of secrets..." problem. I'm so angry because I've NEVER had a problem with Img Burn and absolutely love the program.
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 So you ran drweb cureit and the problem wasn't fixed? How about avg anti-rootkit? You obviously have a much bigger problem here than just ImgBurn not working... your entire machine is screwed until you fix this.
artemisgone Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I actually went to install AVG and it errors every single time and aborts installation. Yeah, I'm really screwed right now
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Try this one: RootRepeal - http://rootrepeal.googlepages.com/ or gmer - http://www.gmer.net/ We talk about it in this thread... http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=10038 try mbam too. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Are you really really sure DrWeb CureIt didn't find anything though?! Did you run a complete scan ok?
artemisgone Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 (edited) Ok got RootRepeal up and running... do you recommend just running a scan on every category? Yeah I ran DrWeb CureIt 3 times to be sure... full scan with no issues at all. Edited May 20, 2009 by artemisgone
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 That one will probably just crash but give it a go if you want. Yes, scan everything and see what it finds. You might have more luck with gmer and mbam though. Feel free to upload any screenshots to do with what each tool finds etc.
artemisgone Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I fired up gmer instead and it's already found the following: \\?\globalroot\systemroot\system32\gxvxchdplofhkgibglcexnjuuqwiyenibgtjm.dll c:\Windows\system32\drivers\gxvxcefvegeqagnphsyoikcngpiwxrpsxqbct.sys
LIGHTNING UK! Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Once you've killed that, all the rubbish will be exposed and you can then use normal programs (all of them if I were you!) to remove what's left.
artemisgone Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Cool. Do I just kill the files that turn red in gmer or all of the ones that come up in rootkit/malware? And as far as the other programs that you want me to run after this, are you talking about DrWeb and AVG?
blutach Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Those 2 are obvious fakes. Destroy them - use safe mode if necessary. Regards
Nick R Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I fired up gmer instead and it's already found the following: \\?\globalroot\systemroot\system32\gxvxchdplofhkgibglcexnjuuqwiyenibgtjm.dll c:\Windows\system32\drivers\gxvxcefvegeqagnphsyoikcngpiwxrpsxqbct.sys I had been using IMGBurn fine (love it), then yesterday got the "no writers" message and also the two items you show above, along with a couple other items in red, but i won't remove those cause I'm not sure.
